She stated she feels Mr. Olson is an impressive young man and <br />she felt the need to speak to his character. 4) Ollie Giles stated she is <br />concerned about the comments made in the mass email regarding the KKK. <br />She also stated she is a Southwest Texas State University student and is <br />against the extension of bar hours. She feels the students should be <br />worried about getting education instead of drinking. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced the Staff Report. 1) Mr. O'Leary presented <br />the Council with a copy of a letter from Southwest Texas State University <br />regarding the abandonment of Fredericksburg Street. He stated Staff was <br />proceeding with this abandonment. 2) Mr. O'Leary stated after the City <br />was made aware of the mass email regarding the KKK, he contacted a Private <br />Investigator. The Private Investigator immediately interviewed several <br />people and determined the email originated from Nephews. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced for consideration one appointment to the <br />Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Mr. Mihalkanin moved to <br />appoint Tom Taber as a General Contractor representative, which passed <br />unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Mayhew introduced for consideration a public hearing and <br />approval of an Ordinance on first reading, the caption which was read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, <br />APPROVING THE ABANDONMENT OF FOUR UNOPENED ALLEYS IN THE PARK <br />ADDITION NEAR THE 100 AND 200 BLOCKS OF SESSOM DRIVE; APPROVING THE <br />CONVEYANCE OF THESE ALLEYS TO SOUTHWEST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY; <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A DEED; AND INCLUDING <br />PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro-Tem Mayhew opened the public hearing and asked if anyone wished <br />to speak. No one did, so Mayor Pro-Tem Mayhew Closed the public hearing. <br />Mr. Taylor moved for approval of the Ordinance on first reading and Ms. <br />Narvaiz seconded the motion. Mr. O'Leary stated Staff recently discovered <br />these alleys where owned by the City. He stated these alleys are needed <br />to construct a new building and parking lot for Southwest Texas State <br />University.
