How many buses will be coming and going through the terminal?
At present CARTS runs thirteen (13) vehicles, four (4) of which are in SMT service from 7:00
am to 6:00 pm, Mon -Fri, and six (6) Community Transit vehicles that are on the street from 8:00
am to 5:00 pm, MOn -Fri. Three vehicles remain on the lot for back-up. There will be a fairly
high level of activity at certain intervals throughout the day as passenger transfers are made,
particularly on the SMT. Currently Greyhound has thirteen (13) daily schedules through San
Marcos. Landscaping will be designed to minimize noise by using existing trees and adding
foliage to create natural "sound buffer" zones making the site as unobtrusive as possible and
environmentally pleasing. CARTS vehicles will be housed on the property in a secure, fenced
area.
What about the Regional Commuter Rail System being discussed. Win it use this
terminal?
This site was chosen with that possibility in mind, but that is not our decision to make. We have
incorporated that eventuality into our master planning of the site, and believe that the location of
our terminal affords the best access for the city as a whole to commuter rail. This site is not large
enough to incorporate all amenities necessary for the volume of use the commuter rail advocates
forecast, but adjacent unused land is available to incorporate adequate park-n-ride facilities for
that use. Our facility is designed for intermodal use, so of course we will incorporate that mode
into our design.
------
