Sector Two Chapter 2 - Today
Pedestrian and Bicycle Transportation
Most of the streets in the Oak Heights, Southwest Hills, and Westover neighborhoods do
not have sidewalks. In addition many of these streets are fairly narrow, making walking
in and around the neighborhoods more difficult. Most of the Castle Forest neighborhood
streets have sidewalks. Pedestrian travel along the major roads in the Sector (Ranch
Road 12, Bishop St., and Craddock Ave.) is very difficult and dangerous in many
locations. Likewise bicycle travel, particularly on the major streets, is not accommodated
well and thus discourages such travel.
Public Transportation
There are three entities providing transit services in San Marcos, including Sector Two.
Durham shuttle bus system provides shuttle service throughout the area for SWT students
and staff. San Marcos Transit has two routes (Westside Historical and Bishop Street) that
link the residential areas with the central business district and other areas of town.
CARTS (Capital Area Rural Transit System) provides on- demand, door -to -door service
for qualifying residents.
Adopted: July 23, 2001 2 -16
