Sector Two Chapter 3 - Tomorrow <br />Transportation <br />This section of the plan focuses on identifying transportation system improvements that <br />are currently planned, or are recommended to serve future development as detailed in the <br />Future Land Use Plan. <br />Goals <br />• Sector Two should have "walkable" neighborhoods that are pedestrian - friendly for <br />children and adults <br />• Safe bicycling routes on all major streets should connect neighborhoods with <br />desirable destinations, such as parks, schools, and shopping <br />• Traffic calming solutions should be implemented on appropriate neighborhood streets <br />to reduce "cut- through" traffic <br />• Adequate planning for internal circulation in new commercial development should be <br />required to prevent traffic problems that are typical of unplanned "strip commercial" <br />development <br />• Street design should balance the need to move cars with community aesthetics and <br />safety for pedestrians and bicyclists <br />• As new land develops, an interconnected street system, either through a traditional <br />street grid or curvalinear grid, is encouraged to reduce the funneling of traffic onto a <br />small number of roads and to ensure pedestrian and bicycle connectivity <br />Streets <br />The following improvements are planned for major thoroughfares: <br />• Wonder World Drive extension from Hunter Road to Ranch Road 12 (currently <br />outside the city limits, south and west of Sector 2) <br />• Extension of Craddock Ave. across Bishop Street to the planned Wonder World Drive <br />extension <br />• Improvements to Craddock Avenue, Bishop Street, and Ranch Road 12 to <br />accommodate future traffic growth and to provide pedestrian and bicycle facilities <br />The following improvements are planned for local and collector streets: <br />• New street connecting Ramona Circle with Hughson Drive (from Craddock Avenue to <br />Ranch Road 12) which should be developed as a tree -lined divided boulevard with a <br />landscaped median. <br />• Traffic calming measures on Franklin Drive to reduce cut - through traffic (to be <br />studied by the City Engineering Department) <br />• New streets as planned throughout the Bishops Crossing (now known as Franklin <br />Square) subdivision <br />• Completion of the grid street system in the Oak Heights Neighborhood: <br />■ Allen Street from Franklin Drive to Marlton Street <br />• Furman Avenue from Franklin Drive to Earle Street <br />• Clyde Street from Bishop Street to Girard Street <br />• Delmar Street from Bishop Street to Girard Street <br />Adopted: July 23, 2001 3 -12 <br />
