San Antonio International Airport, located 45 <br /> miles to the south, also has ten different commercial airlines servicing the area. <br /> - <br /> The City is served by 9 motor freight companies with daily schedules. <br /> Local bus service is available daily from Greyhound Trailways. <br /> Two local taxi services are available with daily service. <br /> Trolley services are available with daily service. <br /> Utilities <br /> Wholesale electrical service is currently provided to the City by the Lower Colorado River Authority. In October 1986, the City <br /> sold S16,355,000 in Electric Utility Revenue Bonds to purchase, improve, extend and equip an electric light and power <br /> distribution system. The City now owns and operates this system. <br /> Entex is the major source of gas for the City. <br /> Water and wastewater service is provided by the City. <br /> The City's telephone ~ce is provided by Century Telephone Company. <br /> Business and Industry <br /> Local industrial manufactured products include molded plastic products, prefabricated steel buildings, dura-flex couplings, pre- <br /> stressed cancrctc beams, pressure steel gate valves, heat transfer equipment, lighting fixtures, sheet metal products. and <br /> warehouse distribution. It is easily identified by the cast1e-lilÅ“ structure of Old Main which was the first building constructed when the <br /> University, then a college, began operation in 1903. It became a University on May 15, 1969, and now has an enrollment of <br /> more than 21,000 students from Texas. <br /> The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District operates a highly accredited campus, including a kindergarten, 6 <br /> elementary schools, 1 junior high school (grades 7-8), and 1 senior high school (grades 9-12). <br /> The San Marcos ~tist Academy and the Brown School are 2 private educational institutes within the City.' Also located in <br /> the City is Gary Job.Corps, a fedenù training cc:nter which provides teclmical training and employs 635 persons. <br /> library <br /> The City operates a new, 27,000 square foot public library with over 86,000 square foot volumes, an adult education program, <br /> computer lab and audio and video media. Southwest Texas State University Library has over 750,000 volumes. <br /> Recreation <br /> Within the City there are 20 public parks of various sizes, consisting of 8 baseball fields, 1 olympic size swimming pool, 6 <br /> lighted tennis courts and various picnic facilities.
