In addition, the City encourages the following <br /> water conservation measures: <br /> a) Hot Water Pipes: Hot water lines not in or under a concrete slab should be insulated. <br /> b) Pressure Reduction Valves: Pressure reduction valves may be installed where system <br /> pressures exceed 80 pounds per square inch. <br /> c) Swimming Pools: Swimming pools should have recirculating filtration equipment. <br /> d) Automatic Dishwashers: Automatic dishwasher~ installed in residential d\vellings <br /> should be a design that uses a maximum of six gallons of water per cycle. <br /> e) Automatic Clotheswashers: Automatic clotheswashers installed 1ll residential <br /> dwellings should be a design that uses a maximum of 14 gallons ofvlater per cycle. <br /> New plumbing fixtures that replace or renovate existing plumbing fixtures should follow the <br /> residential and commercial construction requirements. <br /> 6.3 \Vater Conservation Retrofit Program - - <br /> Retrofit of existing plumbing fixtures is being accomplished through the voluntary efforts <br /> . <br /> of individual consumers and business operators and, as funding becomes available, the City \'lill <br /> offer a rebate for the replacement of existing commodes with a low flush (1.6 gallons per flush) <br /> model. <br /> 6.4 \Vater Conservation Oriented Rates <br /> In October of 1994, the San Marcos City Council adopted an inverted block rate <br /> structure, \'lith higher rates charged during the months of May through October fQr high volume <br /> users (see Appendix C for tabulation of blocks and rates applicable during 1995). <br /> 6.5 Universal Metering and I\leter Repair and Replacement <br /> The City meters all water sales and public uses, and operates a meter replacement <br /> program with the objective to replace 15 percent of residential meters per year, and a residential <br /> meter replacement goal of every 7 to 8 years. All commercial meters are tested annually and <br /> replaced as necessary. The City plans to continue this program. <br /> 6.6 \Vater Conserving Landscaping <br /> Through its public information program, the City encourages and supports the use of <br /> 6 <br />
