Designate an appropriate staff member to coordinate the City's \vater conservation <br /> and recycling programs; <br /> . Make water conservation presentations at institutions, organizations, and groups at <br /> regular intervals; <br /> . Conduct or sponsor exhibits on \-vater conservation and water saving devices to <br /> promote water conservation and efficiency; <br /> r . Provide and distribute water conservation brochures to citizens. Materials are <br /> available from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and the Texas Water <br /> Development Board; <br /> . Work in cooperation \-vith builders, developers, and governmental agencies to provide <br /> exhibits of xeriscape landscaping; <br /> . Work in cooperation with schools to establish an education program, and provide <br /> conservation videos, brochures, and teachings aids; <br /> . Issue press releases on water conservation tips, \-vater conservation rates, and the <br /> City's Emergency Water Demand Management Rules; <br /> . Issue public service announcements for use by local ne\vs media; <br /> . Prepare and mail to all water customers the City's conser\.átion rules, tOilet rebate and <br /> solid waste recycling program information, such mailings to be done m.ice per year; <br /> . Provide \vater conservation information to new \-vater and wa~tewater customers at the <br /> time service is established; <br /> . Continue City Staff participation in San Marcos Chamber of Corrunerce Natural <br /> Resources Committee, and Committee Activities, including distribution of water <br /> conservation information through the Chamber of Commerce; and <br /> . Continue City staff attendance and participation in water conservation program <br /> training offered by state agencies, and professional organizations. <br /> ¡ 6.2 \Vater Conservation Plumbing Fixtures <br /> . <br /> The City's plumbing code encourages the use of \vater conserving plumbing fixtures for <br /> residential and commercial construction. In 1991, the Texas Legislature passed legislation <br /> requiring that plumbing fixtures sold in Texas after January 1, 1992, meet the following <br /> standards: <br /> a) Shovv.er Heads: No more than 2.75 gallons per minute at 80 pounds per square inch <br /> of pressure. <br /> b) Lavatory/Sink Faucets and Aerators: No more than 2.2 gallons per minute at 60 <br /> pounds per square inch of pressure. <br /> c) Wall ,\Jaunted, Flllshometer Toilets: No more than 2.0 gallons per flush. <br /> d) All Other Toilets: No more than 1.6 gallons per flush. <br /> e) Drinking Water Fountains: Must be self closing. <br /> 5 <br />
