257. <br />Regular Meeting July 23, 2003 Page 8 <br /> <br />full-time temporary person. He also stated he would be more comfortable <br />with the Chamber of Commerce representing the City and the community in <br />economic development efforts. Mayor Habingreither stated he feels the <br />lack of economic development has reached a crisis level. He feels the <br />Council should hire someone to assist the Chamber of Commerce. Ms. <br />Narvaiz stated she thinks the Council needs to look at other ways to <br />handle economic development. Mayor Habingreither stated he feels the City <br />should hire a person to devote their time to major projects while the <br />search for a Director is going on. Mr. Mihalkanin stated the Chamber of <br />Commerce shares the same concerns and wants to move with diligent speed. <br />Ms. Narvaiz stated she agrees with the Mayor in regard to the need to take <br />control of this situation. Mr. Thomaides inquired whether someone could <br />be located right away. Mayor Habingreither stated he has someone in mind <br />that might be interested in helping us through the interim period. Ms. <br />Narvaiz asked that the conversation be continued in Executive Session. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced an Executive Session pursuant to the <br />Government Code, Section 551.071, to seek the City Attorney's advice <br />regarding pending litigation, contemplated litigation, a settlement offer, <br />or a matter involving attorney-client privilege (economic development <br />contracts with San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce and San Marcos Hispanic <br />Chamber of Commerce). Ms. Narvaiz moved the Council adjourn into <br />Executive Session at 9:25 p.m. and Mr. Mihalkanin seconded the motion, <br />which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mr. Mihalkanin moved the Council reconvene at 10:11 p.m. and Mr. Diaz <br />seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced the City Council's Report. 1) Ms. Narvaiz <br />stated several Main Street managers visited San Marcos and 01d State Bank <br />on July 17, 2003. She thanked Caf~ on the Square for hosting lunch, Texas <br />Red's for hosting dinner and the Southwest Texas State University <br />Mariachis for playing during dinner. 2) Ms. Narvaiz stated the Convention <br />and Visitor Bureau has provided the Council with a proposed budget and how <br />it will impact them. 3) Ms. Narvaiz thanked everyone who helped and <br />supported her and Mr. Diaz at TAM_ACC. She also congratulated Grande <br />Communication for their business award they received at TAMACC. 4) Mr. <br />Thomaides stated he supports a discussion on policy for modular homes in <br />single-family neighborhoods. <br /> <br />The meeting was adjourned at 10:18 p.m. on motion made by Mr. <br />seconded by Ms. Narvaiz. <br /> <br /> Robert Habingreither <br /> Mayor <br /> <br />Taylor and <br /> <br /> <br />
