<br /> 7"n <br /> -2- <br />Sec. 21-45.2. Assignment: qualifications of employees: hours of <br />service: supervision. <br />(a) Police department employees who serve in the rank of police <br />officer, police corporal, or police sergeant and meet the qualifications <br />set forth below may be selected and assigned by the chief of police <br />to the police department criminal investigations division or narcotics <br />division to perform special assignment services under this division as <br />a criminal investigator: <br /> (1) Minimum of one year of service with the police <br /> department or a minimum of one year of investigative <br /> experience with another law enforcement agency; <br /> (2) Demonstrated knowledge as determined by the chief of <br /> police, according to the police department policies, <br /> procedures and rules; and <br /> (3) Demonstrated technical ability, as determined by the <br /> chief of police, in performance as' a criminal <br /> investigator. <br />(b) Special assignment criminal investigator duty shifts shall be <br />assigned on an as-needed basis by the chief of police in the chiefs <br />sole discretion. <br />(c) Special assignment criminal investigators while on duty remain <br />under the supervision of the officer in charge at the police department. <br />(d) Special assignment criminal investigators are ineligible to receive <br />assignments for the performance of any other types of special <br />assignment services under this chapter except special assignment <br />services under Division 3 of this article which may be performed while <br />concurrently receiving assignments for the performance of services <br />under this division. Police department personnel may discontinu~ the <br />acceptance of duty under this division with supervisory approval and, <br />upon such discontinuance, are eligible to receive assignments for the <br />performance of another type of special assignment services, subject <br />to the satisfaction of all qualifications, recommendation, and selection <br />requirements for the type of services and subject to the police chiefs <br />determination of the necessity the services according to the needs of <br />the department. <br />Sec. 21-45.3. Compensation.. <br />Special assignment criminal investigators shall be compensated at a <br />rate set by city council in addition to regular pay for performance of <br />special assignment services duty under this division. Service under <br />this division for periods of less than a month shall be compensated on <br />a prorata basis. <br />SECTION 3. That the following rates of pay are set for special assignment services <br />duty in the police department: <br />Off-duty security work $ 14.00/hour <br />Field training officer/coordinator: $160.00/month <br />Police K-9 handler: $160.00/month <br />Criminal investigator: $160.00/month <br />
