~"" Describe how the project improves trail opportunities for núnority citizens,
4. /O7¡V\
~QnQllÙC4Ùly ài.sadvanta¡:eà citizens, amI/or elòerly citi~ns, in ~~s whc¡~ ~~£~
groups need improved opponuni1ics.
The ~ark is. loc~ted directly adjacent to minority owned and
-- occ~P7e~ res~dent~al areas. The elderly citizens currently use
fac~l~t~es such as group shelters, picnic tables and areas,
restro~ms and other such ~acilities which are handicapped
acces~~ble. The proposed tra~ls will complete the planned loops
and. w~ll. be located at the periphery of the park, adjacent to
res~dent~al areas.
~. Describe the degree to which the project provides the development of urban trail
linkages betw~n residential areas, places of employment, shopping areas, schools,
recreation areas, and/or other trails. (Urban is deflncd as communities with populations
of 5,000 or greater.)
The proposed trails, which are mostly located at the various park
boundaries, will complete the planned hike and bike trail system.
- This system will connect the adjacent residential areas with
Southwest Texas State University (SWTSU) and other business located
on CM Allen Parkway. The Southwest Texas State university is a
major place of employment for San Marcos residents. The proposed
trails will link several residential areas to one another, as well
as linking these residential areas to employment at SWTSU and other
business located on CM Allen Parkway, for students at SWTSU, to
link all other areas to the recreational facilities located along
the San Marcos River Corridor, and to other existing trails.
6. Describe the degree to which the project ties into ot.ber trails; scenic corridors; natUI1Ù,
cultural, histOric, or rGCrc.aùon areas; streams, lakes. ponds, or coastal ar~as; or cultUI'al .
heritage areas.
The proposed trails tie into five of the identified criteria. The
San Marcos River Corridor is a scenic corridor. The beauty of
this corridor is immediately perceived. This is the clearest and
purest river water in all of the State of Texas. The proposed
trails will tie into the existing trail system, completing planned
routes and loops. The proposed trails will link the natural,
- historic and recreation located along the San Marcos River
areas
Corridor. There are several historic designated buildings, such as
the Fish Hatchery, along the San Marcos River Corridor which will
- be served by the proposed trails. The existing trails and one
portion of the proposed trails cross the San Marcos river and its
tributaries at several places. The existing and proposed trails
provide access to the river for swimming, scuba diving and tube
floating.
TRTF5/13193 Exhibit A-ll
