<br /> 32 <br /> , ! <br /> . <br /> RESOLUTION 1994- 116 R <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS, APPROVING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS <br /> OF AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE TEXAS HILL <br /> COUNTRY CHAPTER, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE <br /> ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE (NAACP) FOR THE LEASE <br /> OF A 1.166 ACRE TRACT OF PROPERTY FOR ESTABLISHMENT <br /> AND OPERATION OF A COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT CENTER; <br /> AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE <br /> AGREEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY; AND DECLARING AN <br /> EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> RECITALS: <br /> 1. The City is the owner of a wood frame building that was <br /> previously a part of the Dunbar School. <br /> 2. The city Council declared this building to be surplus to the <br /> City's needs and agreed to donate it to the NAACP in its Resolution <br /> 1994-18R on January 24, 1994. <br /> 3. The city and the NAACP have as common goals the fostering of <br /> self-reliance, literacy, and education for the realization of the <br /> full potential of all members of the San Marcos community. <br /> 4. The city, in partnership with the NAACP, is willing to lease <br /> an area of city property in the Dunbar Neighborhood to the NAACP so <br /> that the building can be relocated to that property, renovated by <br /> the NAACP, and operated as an "Empowerment Center" for these common <br /> goals and for the purposes described in the attached lease <br /> agreement. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNÇIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> TEXAS: <br /> PART 1. That the terms and conditions of the Agreement <br /> attached to this Resolution between the city and the NAACP for the <br /> lease of a 1.166 acre tract of property for the establishment and <br /> operation of a community empowerment center are approved. <br /> PART 2. That the city Manager, Larry D. Gilley, is authorized <br /> to execute this Agreement on behalf of the city. <br /> PART 3.
