<br /> l . f' <br /> - loln~ <br /> . - <br /> <br /> August 12, 1994 <br /> ISTEA Enhancemeñ~ Program <br /> Texas Department of Transportation <br /> : 125 East 11th street <br /> Austin, Texas 78701-2602 <br /> Dear Review committee Member: <br /> ,'. city of <br /> Enclosed is an application from the San Marcos for funds <br /> to assist the city with the development of the San Marcos River <br /> Gateway Hike and Bike System. The funds requested for this <br /> project will provide a much needed pedestrian link between the <br /> San Marcos River, downtown, SWTSU and four adjacent <br /> neighborhoods. <br /> This grant will also provide funds for a River Educátion and <br /> Interpretation center, which will enable our citizens and <br /> visitors to learn about our local history and about our fragile <br /> river ecosystems and habitat. <br /> The City will commit funds totaling $402,000. VIe currently have <br /> $185,000 budget for downtown sidewalk improvement s, $27,000 for <br /> sidewalk to the Library and an additional $40,000 from San Marcos <br /> Electric Utility to be utilized in the downtown area during this <br /> fiscal year. An additional $150,000 has been recommended from <br /> next years CBDŒ funds to complete downtown improvements. <br /> Official council approval of this funding will occur in October. <br /> The city is committed to this project and will not be submitting <br /> any other application for funds under the ISTEA Enhancement <br /> program. <br /> We believe that the planned Gateway Hike and Bike trails will <br /> enhance our Hike and Bike system and will enable us to educate <br /> our citizens, children and visitors. <br /> City Hall. 6.30 East Hopkins' San ~'Iarcos, Texas 78666 . 512/.353:4444 .
