<br />/ ./'-'7/r_/, 3tE <br /> <br />ED\VARDS AQUIFER INTERLOCAL CONTRACT <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />The Edwards Underground Water District, a special use district created under Article <br />XVI, Section 59 of the Texas Constitution (hereinafter the NEdwards District"), the Medina <br />County Underground Water Conservation District, a conservation district created under Chapter <br />52 of the Texas Water Code (hereinafter the "Medina District"), and the Uvalde County <br />Underground Conservation District, a conservation district created under Chapter 52 of the <br />Texas Water Code (hereinafter the "Uvalde District") hereby enter into this Edwards Aquifer <br />Interlocal Contract (hereinafter NContract"). The Edwards District, the Medina District and <br />Uvalde District are sometimes herein collectively referred to as "Parties" or "Districts" or <br />singularly as "Party" or "District." <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Edwards District, the Medina District, and the Uvalde District are the <br />three entities authorized and obligated in law to perform certain duties rel~te9 to the <br />management, protection, and conservation of the underground water-bearing formations within <br />the re~-':::ctive Districts, and <br /> <br />fHEREAS, the Edwards District, the Medina District, and the Uvalde District are <br />desirous to create a binding contract setting forth a regional water management plan for the <br />Edwards Aquifer; <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants, agreements and benefits <br />to the Edwards District. Medina District, and Uvalde District, it is hereby mutually agreed by <br />the Parties as follows: <br /> <br />1. PURPOSE. <br /> <br />The purpose of this Contract is to achieve sound, equitable, and regional management <br />of the Edwards Aquifer (hereinafter N Aquifer") by all parties who have the power and <br />duty to do so, whether derived from law, from environmental, economic or social <br />interests, or from stewardship of a unique natural resource. <br /> <br />1.1. Specifically, the Parties agree to the following goals: <br /> <br />1.1.1. to promote the fair and equitable management of the Aquifer; <br /> <br />1.1.2. to ensure proper management of the Aquifer through regional cooperation; <br /> <br />€' <br /> <br /> <br />.1.1.3. to maintain springflows at levels necessary to comply with the Endangered <br />Species Act (as hereinafter defined); <br /> <br />1.1.4. to maintain water supplies sufficient to meet the needs of users in the <br />region; <br /> <br />1.1.5. to increase water supplies in the region and to prevent over-production and <br />depletion of the Aquifer; <br /> <br />., " <br />
