For piping
exposed to outside air, increase thickness by one-half
inch.
602.2.1 Walls: The combined thermal transmittance
value (Uo) of the exterior walls shall not exceed the
value specified in Table No. 502.2.1 or 502.3.1. as
appropriate for the building type. The UO of the wall
shall be determined by selecting the U w value for the
wall section from Appendix Table no. 602.2.1a,
602.2.1b, or 602.2.1c and modifying the U w by the use
of Chart 602.2.1a or 602.2.1b based on the glazing
area. The minimum "R" rating of insulation installed
in exterior walls shall be "R-11".
602.2.2 Roof/ceilinq: The roof/ceiling assembly
shall be selected from Appendix Table No. 602.2.2 for
thermal transmittance value not exceeding the value
specified for roof/ceiling in Table No. 502.2.1 or
502.3.1 as appropriate for the building type. The
minimum "R" rating of insulation installed in open
attics, knee walls and concealed areas of vaulted
ceilings shall be "R-19". ~
604.3 Pipe insulation: For recirculating systems,
piping heat loss shall be limited to a maximum of 17.5
Btu/h per linear foot of pipe in accordance with Table
No. 604.3, which is based on a design external
temperature no lower than 65 degrees F. Other design
temperatures must be calculated.
Piping installed as part of the service water heating
distribution system, from the outlet side of water
heating units to within six inches of individual
fixture cut off, shall be thermally insulated with a
pipe insulation of one-inch thickness. For piping
exposed to outside air, increase thickness by one-half
inch.
Sec. 5-5.
