Electric System San Marcos Electric Utility is a municipally ownèd utility sèrvicing approximatdy 13,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. Wholesale electrical sèrvice is provide::d to the:: City by the:: Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) which has diversific::d generation sources: hydro - II %; gas - 46%; coal - 43 %. The City's wholesale power agreement (thè "Whole::salè Power Agrec::ment") with LCRA was èxecuted by thè City on August 12, 1986, and was effective as of September 1, 1986. The \Vholèsale Power Agreement has a term of thirteen years from the effective date thereof and successive periods of ten years there::after unless either party has notifièd the other in writing prior to the end of thè eighth year of the original or succèssive agreeme::nt te::rm that it inte::nds to te::mùnate:: the:: agre::ement. Power is distributed throughout the City from four sub-stations, centrally locate::d to the service area. Dual feed with automatic switchover is available at site locations. Distribution installed capacity is 120 megawatts, with system load p.:-aking at 65 me::gawatts. San Marcos Ekctric Utility is acrive::ly e::ngage::d in ene::rgy conservation programs which continue to make powe::r supply availability and dependability even more attractive, Reliability ratings for the City and LCRA are 99.9% and 99.8%, re::spectivdy.
