From City of San Marcos Land Development Code <br />Chapter 7, Public Facilities Standards, Article 4, Roads, Sidewalks and Alleys, Division 1, <br />General Standards, Section 7.4.1.4, Specific Street Standards, subsection (u): <br />(u) Streetlights. Streetlights shall be installed by the developer at all intersections and at the ends <br />of cui -de -sacs, and shall have no greater distance than 400 feet between them within or abutting <br />the subdivision. Street Lighting inside the City Limits shall be installed and suitable to accept <br />power by the developer or property owner of new residential, commercial, or industrial <br />developments at all intersections and at the end of cut -de -sacs, and shall have no greater distance <br />than 400 feet between the fixtures within or abutting the subdivision. Poles shall be located a <br />minimum of two feet behind existing or planned curbs or sidewalks on public rights -of -way. <br />Street lighting structures shall comply with the City of San Marcos Electric Utilities <br />Underground Installation Specifications. Street lights shall be fully shielded in such a manner <br />that light emitted by the fixture, either from the lamp or indirectly from the luminaire, is <br />projected below a horizontal plane running through the lowest point on the fixture where light is <br />emitted. All street light installations shall be in accordance with the National Electrical Code <br />and National Electrical Safety Code, and shall also conform to City laws, codes and <br />specifications governing such work. Alternative standards for street lighting installations will be <br />considered by the Electric Utility Division ofthe City of San Marcos Public Services Department <br />on a case by case basis. All street lights shall be connected by the serving utility, to the <br />permanent power supply and function properly prior to final acceptance. Service to locations <br />where City electric utility facilities are not available will be made at the discretion of the Electric <br />Utility Division of the City of San Marcos Public Services Department and at an additional <br />charge, subject to existing tariffs, to the developer or property owner to cover the costs of <br />installation and maintenance, including appropriate overheads, additional poles, conductors, <br />other facilities and increased maintenance expenses. Applicable state or federal street lighting <br />requirements in conflict with this ordinance supersede this ordinance. <br />WA <br />
