The law also entitles dependents of a covered <br /> employee to continue their group insurance coverage for up to thirty-six (36) months upon the <br /> termination of a covered employee; a reduction in an employee's hours of employment; upon <br /> the death of a covered employee; the employee's divorce or legal separation; when dependent <br /> children are no longer "eligible dependents" under the definition in the policy; and when the <br /> employee ceases to participate in the City sponsored plan if the employee is Medicare eligible. <br /> The employee or dependent must request continuation of coverage and must pay the full cost <br /> of coverage plus two percent. Details regarding this benefit may be obtained from the Human <br /> Resources Department. <br /> Section 5.30 - Retirement: <br /> The City of San Marcos is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System, a <br /> ~ <br /> cooperative organization of Texas cities and towns formed and operating under the provisions <br /> of State Law. All regular employees who work at least one thousand (1,000) hours per year <br /> automatically become members of the retirement system upon employment. The employee's <br /> contribution to the system is set by the City Council as a percent of gross salary.
