Also, connecting the City to the State are State Highways 21, 80, <br /> 123, 142, and Ranch Road 12. <br /> Missouri Pacific has 18 daily freight trains, Amtrak has 3 trains daily, and Missouri-Kansas-Texas has 6 <br /> daily freight trains with one freight terminal. <br /> San Marcos Municipal Airport is operated by the City Council and consists of 4 runways and 6 taxiways, <br /> all in good condition and able to accommodate most kinds of aircraft. Charter plane service is available. <br /> Austin Municipal Airport, located 28 miles north of San Marcos, has commercial airline service with 10 <br /> different carriers. San Antonio International Airport, located 45 miles to the south, also has ten different <br /> commercial airlines servicing the area. <br /> The City is served by 9 motor freight companies with daily schedules. <br /> Local bus service is available daily from Greyhound Trailways. <br /> Two local taxi services are available with daily service. <br /> Utilities <br /> Wholesale electrical service is currently provided to the City by the Lower Colorado River Authority. In <br /> October 1986, the City sold $16,355,000 in Electric Utility Revenue Bonds to purchase, improve, extend <br /> and equip an electric light and power distribution system. The City now owns and operates this system. <br /> Entex is the major source of gas for the City. <br /> Water and wastewater service is provided by the City. <br /> The City's telephone service is provided by an independent telephone company, the San Marcos Telephone <br /> Company. <br /> Business and Industry <br /> Dun and Bradstreet rates 395 business establishments. Local industrial manufactured products include <br /> molded plastic products, prefabricated steel buildings, dura-flex couplings, pre-stressed concrete beams, <br /> pressure steel gate valves, heat transfer equipment, lighting fixtures, sheet metal products, and <br /> warehouse distribution.
