F SAN
OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: George Boeker, Director of Public Works
FROM: David Vènhuizen, Environmental Engineer ~\j
SUBJECT: URBAN SYSTEMS PROJECT CANDIDATES
DATE: May 4, 1983 RE:
This memo outlines a number of projects In the City which might be con-
sidered as candidates for Urban Systems funding. I suggest that these
be submitted to the appropriate bodies for consideration, prioritization
and selection for funding request. The projects are presented here in
no particular order of priority. I will not attempt to provide justifi-
cation for each project here. They all address some needed traffic
improvement, and I expect that City Council, the Planning Commission,
etc., are as aware of the general problems in each area as I am. I will
be happy to discuss any or all of these projects and offer my perspectives
if requested to do so.
1. Restore Guadalupe and LBJ Streets to 2-way traffic. This would
required widening of the Purgatory Creek bridge on Guadalupe
Street, reworking of 10 signals, all of which are candidates
for upgrading an~way, changes in signage, and striping. It
would also be desirable to acquire R.O.W. and widen Guadalupe
Street In some areas, and to develop longitudinal drainage
storm sewers in conjunction with the widening. The R.O.W. and
longitudinal drainage would be ineligible for Urban Systems
funding.
2. Widen Loop 82 to 4 lanes from I.H. 35 to where it currently
widens to 4 lanes near Bugg Lane, and install the culvert under
Loop 82 called for by the Mill Street Outfall Channel plans.
It would also be advisable to redesign the intersection of Loop
82, Post Road and the Aquarena entrance drive. This intersection
would probably required signalization.
3. Rebuild Post Road from Loop 82 to the City Limits. This would
include paving, developing longitudinal and cross drainage, and
signage and striping. Post Road from Uhland Road to the City
limits is not currently included on the Urban System, so the map
would have to be altered to included this part. Longitudinal
drainage would not be eligible for Urban Systems funding.
4. Widen Ranch Road 12 from Smith Street to the City Limits¡ or
portions thereof, and improve cross and longi~udinal drainage
CSM-1 00
