CITIZEN ACTIVITIES
By far the most popular activity for citizens in San
Marcos is "eating out (low cost meals)" with over 60%
indicating frequent participation and over 37% indicating
"occasionally". Only 2% say that they don't eat out at all.
Also, as Table 11 shows, "eating out (low cost meals)"
is the only activity in which more persons participate
"frequently" than "occasionally".
[See Table 11]
Four other activities are engaged in frequently or
occasionally by more than 75% of respondents: "movies," "use
of public parks," "eating out (more expensive meals)" and
"river activities". These could generally be classified as
individual, family or small group activities.
In contrast, the three ne~t most popular activities
fall into the what might be called the large group/spectator
category: "festivals/fairs/art shows," "spectator sports
events," "concerts/plays/dance performances/etc." From 70%
to 75% of the people take part in these activities. The
remaining thirteen activities all involve active team or
individual participation rather than spectator activity.
In only three cases did more than 20% of respondents
indicate that they would participate more if an activity were
40
