November 12 and November 19. A few surveys were returned
later and incorporated into the final sample. Six hundred
and thirteen completed and usable surveys were returned.
While the 613 original returns represented a
statistically valid sample of the San Marcos community, an
inspection of returns indicated that the response rate from
SWTSU students was somewhat higher than for non-student
residents. Among the 504 non-student residents
394 (78.2%) respondents indicated their racejethnicity to be
"white" and 92 (18.3%) respondents indicated their
racejethnicity to be "Hispanic" [see end note #1]. One
hundred and seventeen (23.2%) non-student residents resided
in the ETJ, 71 (14.1%) resided in the section of the city we
3
