1.3. Employment <br />Employment opportunities in the area and educational levels of the employees make <br />a significant impact on housing affordability and the location choice of residents. <br />Table 1.5, below, presents our analysis of occupation data, which indicate that there <br />has been some shift in the distribution of occupations between 2000 and 2010. <br />Retail services had the largest increase, up 3.1 percentage points to 18.8 percent. <br />Arts, entertainment, recreation, accommodation, and food services had an increase, <br />up 2.2 percentage points to 19.0 percent. Manufacturing realized the largest <br />reduction of 2.6 percentage points leading to 4.3 percent of the total workforce. <br />Education and health services had a decrease of 2.0 percentage points to 27.2 <br />percent of the workforce. Transportation, Communications, and other public utilities <br />reduced by 1.0 percentage point to 5.2 percent of the total workforce.
