19.0 percent of all African - American households were in this category. Non - <br />family households among Whites made up 72.1 percent of all White households <br />in San Marcos. Non - family households among Hispanics accounted for 41.9 <br />percent of all Hispanic households. Non - family households among African - <br />Americans accounted for 58.8 percent of all African - American households. <br />Employment opportunities in the area and educational levels of the employees <br />make a significant impact on housing affordability and the location choice of <br />residents. Table 1.5, in the Community Profile, presents our analysis of <br />occupation data, which indicate that there has been some shift in the distribution <br />of occupations between 2000 and 2010. Retail services had the largest increase, <br />up 3.1 percentage points to 18.8 percent. Arts, entertainment, recreation, <br />accommodation, and food services had an increase, up 2.2 percentage points to <br />19.0 percent. Manufacturing realized the largest reduction of 2.6 percentage <br />points leading to 4.3 percent of the total workforce. Education and health services <br />had a decrease of 2.0 percentage points to 27.2 percent of the workforce. <br />Transportation, Communications, and other public utilities reduced by 1.0 <br />percentage point to 5.2 percent of the total workforce. Finance, insurance, and <br />real estate services experienced a reduction of 1.0 percentage point falling to 3.7 <br />percent of the total workforce. <br />According to the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, the major employers in the <br />area include Texas State University with 2,780 employees, Prime Outlets San <br />Marcos with 2,100 employees, and Tanger Factory Outlet Center with 1,540 <br />employees. San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has <br />1,114 workers, Hays County has 850 employees, Hunter Industries and Central <br />Texas Medical Center have 650 workers each, HEB Distribution Center employs <br />578 workers, City of San Marcos has 517 employees, and Telenetwork Partners, <br />LTD has 500 employees. <br />According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for the City of <br />San Marcos has marginally increased from 5.9 percent in 2011 to 6.2 percent as <br />iv <br />
