<br /> VATER SUPPLY INVESTIGATION <br /> REVIEV OF SELECTED ALTERNATIVES <br /> SUMMARY OF FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> FINDINGS <br /> 1. Alternate sources of water should be developed by those now using <br /> the Edwards Aquifer for water supply. <br /> 2. The probable project cost ini tially developed for a new plant at <br /> New Braunfels and pumping treated water to San Marcos appear low. <br /> 3. Use of water from the San Marcos River would lower initial capital <br /> cost and provide greater flexibili ty for the City of San Marcos in <br /> meeting future water needs. <br /> 4. The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) considers a plant at <br /> San Marcos the most cost effective alternative for providing treated <br /> water in the region. This is true for taking water from the San Marcos <br /> River and/or Canyon Lake. <br /> 5. It may be necessary in the future to supplement and possibly <br /> replace San Marcos River water with water from Canyon Lake or some <br /> other surface source. <br /> 6. The GBRA is willing to develop an agreement with the City of San <br /> Marcos to make Canyon Lake water available now and/or in the future. <br /> 7. A plant could be built in San Marcos to treat San Marcos River <br /> water for less cost than a similar plant in New Braunfels. <br /> 8. The GBRA would assist the City of San Marcos with testimony, <br /> records, and support to obtain water diversion rights from the San <br /> Marcos River. <br /> 1 <br />
