Adopted 8-13-90
SAN MARCOS CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The San Marcos Convention and Visitors Bureau, administered
by the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, has as its primary
function the allocation of hotel/motel tax revenues, and other
available funds, to those programs and projects which will
encourage tourists, convention and meeting participants and
other visitors to visit attractions, points of interest, tour
historical districts, use park and recreational facilities,
attend special events and productions, conduct business and stay
overnight in San Marcos.
As a result of these programs, we anticipate an increase in
total revenues gained from tourism business, an increase in the
number of jobs related to the tourism industry in the San Marcos
area, and the enhancement of the overall economic climate of San
Marcos.
The primary benchmark for the success of the CVB will be
inc reases in the hotel/motel tax revenues as an indicator of
improved occupancy among the city1s lodging facilities. Further,
we anticipate increases in that portion of city sales tax revenue
directly related to increasing levels of visitor spending.
Given the location of San Marcos, its two major tourist
attractions, SWTSU, its unique river and natural beauty, we will
focus on promoting San Marcos as a year-round travel destination.
San Marcos will be positioned within the Texas tourism industry
as a family-oriented regional destination. Promotional efforts
will concentrate on Aquarena Springs Resort, Wonder World, San
Marcos Factory Shops, SWTSU, historical districts, San Marcos
River and special events.
