<br /> SAN MARCOS CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU <br /> Guidelines For Special Events And Arts Funding Assistance <br /> The San Marcos Convention and Visitors Bureau actively promotes <br /> and advertises all special events in San Marcos through a variety <br /> of advertising and promotional methods. including a general four- <br /> color brochure. calendar of events, magazines, newspapers, <br /> billboards. mail and phone inquiries. <br /> The CVB's approximate costs for promoting events can be itemized <br /> in the following ways: <br /> 4-Color Brochure $.06 per piece x 200,000 annually $12.000 <br /> Visitor Maps $.025 per piece x 100,000 annually 2,500 <br /> Souvenir Lapel Pins $.185 per piece x 25.000 annually 4.600 <br /> Souvenir Convention $.14 per piece x 25,000 annually 3,500 <br /> Bags <br /> Bumper Stickers $ . 19 per piece x 2,500 annually 500 <br /> Magazine and Ne wspape r Ads 46.500 <br /> Billboard Advertising llJ.500 <br /> Travel Show Promotions 9,500 <br /> 1-800 Telephone 1.lJOO <br /> Postage for mail and phone inquiries _2LQQQ <br /> $104,000 <br /> The approximate annual contribution of tourism monies for the <br /> direct promotion of San Marcos and its events is $100,000. In <br /> addition to this amount, tourism monies are used to administer <br /> these programs, maintain equipment and slide libraries. Funds of <br /> approximately $5,000 are used to recruit and to host convention <br /> and meeting delegates in San Marcos. Approximately $llJ,500.00 is <br /> used annually to fund the operation of the Interstate 35 Tourist <br /> Information Center and $26,000 funds the Chamber's administrative <br /> responsibilities and Information Center. <br /> Based on this information and these facts, the CVB and the <br /> Chamber of Commerce make the following recommendations for <br /> special event funding from the hotel/motel tax revenues collected <br /> by the City of San Marcos. <br /> CRITERIA FOR EVENT FUNDING: <br /> 1. Events must have the potential for overnight visitors and be <br /> able to provide this potential by: <br /> a. historic information on number of room nights used <br /> during previous years of same event, <br /> b. definite programs and factors in the event which will <br /> encourage overnight visitors in local lodging properties <br /> (first-time events). <br /> 2. Events must have the capability and demonstrate the ability <br /> to grow either by number of participants Or spectators. <br /> Page 1. <br />
