Mulching and watering: After planting trees,they shall <br /> be mulched with a layer of pine bark covering the entire saucer <br /> area around each plant to a depth of 2 inches. The plant pits shall <br /> ten be watered with sufficient water to wet the entire root <br /> structure of the trees. <br /> 20-10 ESTABLISHMENT: <br /> Operations shall begin immediately after each plant is <br /> planted and shall continue for a period of not less than 60 <br /> calendar days after the last plant of the original planting has <br /> been planted, mulched and staked. Plants shall be kept in a heal thy <br /> growing condition by watering, pruning, spraying, weeding, <br /> cultivating, and by any other necessary operations of maintenance. <br /> Plant saucers and shall be kept free of weeds, grass, and other <br /> undesired vegetation growth. Plants shall be inspected at least <br /> weekly by the Contractor during the planting period and necessary <br /> work shall be promptly performed. Watering will be required when, <br /> in the opinion of the Engineer, the soil moisture is below optimum <br /> level for best plant growth. Weekly watering will normally be <br /> required during dry weather. <br /> 20-11 REPLACEMENT: <br /> During the planting period, plants that die or are in the <br /> opinion of the Engineer, in an unhealthy, unsightly, or impaired <br /> condition, shall be replaced by the Contractor prior to the <br /> commencement of the establishment period. Replacements shall be <br /> made in accordance with 20-07. Three days prior to the conclusion <br /> of the establishment period the Engineer and the Contractor will <br /> make an inapection of the work to determine condition of all <br /> plants. All plants that are dead or not in a heal thy growing <br /> condition, as determined by the Engineer, will be noted. All plants <br /> noted to be unhealthy, unsightly, or damaged, shall be removed from <br /> the site and replaced with healthy plants of the same kinds and <br /> sizes as originally specified. Such replacements shall be made in <br /> the same manner as specified for the original planting, at no extra <br /> cost to the Owner. Maintenance of the replacements will be by the <br /> Owner after the original establishment period. <br /> 20-1 <br />
