<br /> 134 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 9 <br /> ELECTRICAL WORK - GENERAL <br /> ceilings, with right-angle turns consisting of cast-metal fittings <br /> or symmetrical bends. Bends and offsets shall be avoided where <br /> possible, but where necessary shall be made with an approved hickey <br /> or conduit-bending machine. Conduit or tubing which has been <br /> crushed or deformed in any way shall not be installed. <br /> Expansion fittings or other approved devices shall be used to <br /> provide for expansion and contraction where conduit crosses <br /> expansion joints. Wooden plugs inserted in masonry or concrete <br /> shall not be used as a base to secure conduit or tubing supports. <br /> Conduit or tubing shall be supported by approved types of wall <br /> brackets, ceiling trapeze, strap hangers, or pipe straps. Supports <br /> shall be secured with fasteners, appropriate to the type of <br /> construction encountered, as follows: to wood with wood screws¡ to <br /> hollow masonry units with toggle bolts¡ to solid masonry and <br /> concrete with expansion bolts or threaded studs driven in with a <br /> powder charge; to metal surfaces with machine screws, threaded <br /> studs driven in with a powder charge, or threaded studs welded to <br /> the metal. Nails shall not be used as the means of fastening boxes <br /> or conduits. Conduits or tubing shall be installed in such manner <br /> as to insure against trouble from the collection of trapped <br /> condensation and all runs of conduit or tubing shall be arranged <br /> so as to be devoid of traps wherever possible. The Contractor shall <br /> exercise the necessary precautions to prevent the filling of dirt, <br /> mortar, or trash in conduit, fittings, and boxes during the course <br /> of installation. A run of conduit or tubing which has become <br /> clogged shall be entirely freed of these accumulations or shall be <br /> replaced. Conduit or tubing shall be securely fastened to all sheet <br /> metal outlet junction, pull boxes and metal wireways with two <br /> galvanized locknuts and a. bushing, care being observed to see that <br /> the full number of threads project through to permit the bushing <br /> to be drawn tight against the end of conduit, and the internal <br /> locknut backed up against the bushing after which the external <br /> locknut shall be made up sufficiently tight to draw the internal <br /> locknut into firm electrical contact wi th the box or wireway. <br /> Bushings having inserts of insulating material or constructed <br /> wholly of insulating material shall be used where required. The <br /> installation shall meet the requirements specified above and, in <br /> addition, the conduit shall be installed 80 that the approximate <br /> maximum length of a run for 1/2 and 3/4 inch conduit is 15 feet, <br /> and for 1 inch conduit is 150 feet. No more than the equivalent of <br /> 9-4 <br />
