<br /> -13- <br /> shaped signs shall be the maximum area visible from any point <br /> as measured across the diameter. <br />(4) ATTACHED SIGN: Any sign attached to, applied on, or <br /> supported by, any part of a building or accessory structure. <br />(5) AUTOMATIC CHANGING SIGN: A sign which automatically changes <br /> the sign copy on a preprogrammed cycle through the use of <br /> illumination. <br />(6) COMMUNITY INFORMATION SIGN: Any sign which promotes items of <br /> general interest to the community such as time, temperature, <br /> date, atmospheric conditions, and upcoming noncommercial <br /> events or charitable causes. <br />(7) COPY: The letters, numbers, symbols, or geometric shapes, <br /> either in permanent or changeable form, on the surface of a <br /> sign. <br />( B) ELECTRIC SIGN: A sign connected to an electric power source <br /> for any purpose. <br />( 9) ERECT: To construct, reconstruct, install, attach, or <br /> paint a sign. <br />(10) FACADE: A side of a building or accessory structure which <br /> consists of a separate architectural elevation as viewed <br /> horizontally from the ground, street, or other nearby <br /> location. The area of a facade is defined by the outer <br /> limits of all of its visible exterior elements. Separate <br /> faces of a building oriented in the same direction or within <br /> 45 degrees of each other shall be considered part of the same <br /> facade. <br />(11) FREESTANDING SIGN: Any sign affixed to the ground, or mounted <br /> on a fence or wall which is not an integral part of a <br /> building or accessory structure. <br />(12) HEIGHT: The vertical distance between the highest part of <br /> the sign or its supporting structure, whichever is higher, <br /> and either of the following: <br /> a. In the highway corridor, the elevation of the crown of <br /> the nearest portion of the highway other than service or <br /> access roads from which the sign is intended to be seen; <br /> or, <br /> b. In all other locations, the greatest elevation of the <br /> ground at the base of, or below, the sign. <br />(13) HIGHWAY CORRIDOR: All property located within 350 feet of a <br /> right-of-way line of any divided highway having at least 4 <br /> lanes where the speed limit is the maximum allowed by federal <br /> or state law, but not including any property classified by <br /> the zoning ordinance as a residential district, or designated <br /> by the adopted Master Plan as future residential land use in <br /> the extraterritorial jurisdiction. <br />(14) IDENTIFICATION SIGN: A sign containing the name, address, <br /> and recognized symbol or logo of a subdivision, building or <br /> complex of buildings containing multiple occupancies, or of <br /> any non-profit, civic, religious, educational, or <br /> governmental institution. Identification signs for multiple <br /> occupancies may also contain the names, addresses, and <br /> recognized symbol or logo of two or more of the individual <br /> tenants or businesses. <br />(l5) ILLUMINATED OR LIT SIGN: A sign exposed to artificial <br /> lighting by light sources located on or in the sign, or <br /> specifically directed toward the sign. <br />
