He has
also pledged financial support by agreeing to provide a paid
teacher who will oversee the library's walk-in, adult
tutoring program, Mr, Gunlock and his teaching staff will
help us develop the Job Information Center and publicize the
project, An agreement of cooperation executed by
representatives from both the library and the Co-op is
attached in Appendix A,
The Adult Education Department at the San Marcos High School
is another important partner in planning and publicizing the
Lifelong Learning Project, The adult education coordinator
and GED examiner for the high school are both very supportive
of our plans and have written us letters of cooperation which
can be found in Appendix B of the narrative,
Another agency with whom we are working closely is Employment
Resources sponsored by the Rural Capital Area Private
Industry Council and funded by the Job Training and
Partnership Act (JTPA). Employment Resources often refers
potential students to the library's adult education program.
This agency has indicated that it will bring groups of
clients to the library's proposed Job Information Center and
supply the center with information about JTPA programs in the
region, The staff at Employment Resources is very supportive
of our current program and future plans. The Resource
Manager, Jan Murray, has written a letter of support which
can be found in Appendix B of the narrative.
In our current ESL adult tutoring program we have discovered
a segment of the ESL population with unique needs. This
group consists of those people who have qualified for amnesty
under the 1986 revision to the Immigration and Naturalization
law, In November, 23% of our students were amnesty
candidates. Currently we are cooperating with Refugee Rights
in order to help meet the needs of this population. Refugee
