TIWC
1.0 Introduction
Tanks and lines at the City of San Marcos's fuel depot at the
maintenance yard at Hopkins Street were found to have two lines that
were leaking. The testing was performed by Tank Check Environmental
Services. The suction line (line 3) providing regular gas was found to
be leaking in two (2) spots; one at the joint underneath the dispenser
and another at the joint over the tank. The suction line (line 4)
providing unleaded gasoline was found to have 3 leaks; one near the
dispenser island, another near the tank, and the other halfway between
the dispenser and tank. The soil underneath the lines was excavated,
sampled and tested. Soil and backfill contamination was found, the
water in the backfill of tank 1 was found to be contaminated. Drilling
was performed to determine the extent of contamination. This report
documents the findings to date and recommends additional drilling and
studies to quantify the extent of contamination and to remediate the
contamination. This report has been prepared as an interim
documentation of the findings and conclusions to inform the City of San
Marcos and the TWC of the current status of the site investigations. A
thorough documentation will be prepared at a later date when the
investigations are complete.
2.0 SITE LOCATION
The site is the fuel depot for the City of San Marcos. It is located at
630 E. Hopkins" San Marcos, Texas 78666. The City of San Marcos is
located in Hays County between Austin and San Antonio. It is approximately 2000 feet east of the Edwards
Aquifer transition zone and approximately 3000 feet east of the San
Marcos River. The location of the tank farm and some of the details of
the site are shown in the Site Plot, Figure 1.
3.0 SUBSURFACE RELEASE OF GASOLINE
The source of the gasoline release is the suction lines serving the
regular and unleaded dispensers. The quantity of gasoline release is
unknown. There was not any significant free product found in the
backfill of the tanks. Signicant levels of soil vapor gasoline and
dissolved gasoline in the groundwater were found.
4.0 DISPOSITION OF TAt1!'.8., PRODUCTS, WASTES, SOIL
The gasoline remaining in the tanks has been removed by the Tolson oil
Distributor.
