ORDINANCE NO. 2026-25 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 3, BOARDS, <br /> COMMITTEES AND COMMISSIONS, OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY <br /> CODE TO ADD A NEW DIVISION 23, ESTABLISHING A HISTORIC <br /> PRESERVATION PLAN OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE AND AMENDING <br /> SECTION 2.067 OF THE CODE TO ALLOW PERSONS TO SERVE ON <br /> THE COMMITTEE AND ANOTHER CITY BOARD OR COMMISSION; <br /> PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ANY CONFLICTING PROVISIONS; <br /> PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE <br /> DATE. <br /> RECITALS: <br /> 1. The City Council and the City of San Marcos,Texas finds that historic preservation <br /> serves a valid and essential public purpose,promotes cultural heritage, and supports economic and <br /> educational benefits for the community. <br /> 2. Texas Local Government Code Chapter 211 and Chapter 216 authorize the City <br /> Council to regulate and preserve sites of historical, architectural, or cultural significance. <br /> 3. The City has developed a Historic Preservation Plan to identify, safeguard, and <br /> guide the stewardship of San Marcos's historic resources for current and future generations. <br /> 4. The City Council and the City of San Marcos, Texas has determined that there is a <br /> need to establish a Historic Preservation Plan Oversight Committee. <br /> 5. This oversight committee will provide annual recommendations and status reports <br /> on plan implementation, support prioritization of objectives, and facilitate community input in <br /> accordance with City goals and policies. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> TEXAS: <br /> SECTION 1. Section 2.067 of the San Marcos City Code is amended as set forth below. <br /> Underlining indicates added text. <br /> Sec. 2.067. Membership on more than one board or commission. <br /> (a)A person may not be appointed as a member of more than one permanent <br /> city board or commission, except where duplicate appointments are authorized by <br /> _ ordinance, by the Charter or by state law. <br /> (b) A person may serve on the San Marcos Industrial Development <br /> Corporation Board and on another permanent city board or commission.
