Etheredge <br /> <br />Visitors: <br /> <br />Jerri Martin, Bruce Smith, Bob B~rtoni jr. <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Councilmen canvassed the Run-off Election Returns. Some minor <br />discrepancies were found. in ~hree precinct returns which did not <br />affect the outcome of the vote. <br /> <br />Eddy' A. Etheredge was declared the successful candidate for <br />Councilman, Place 5. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Secretary was asked to call the discrepanties to the <br />attention of the three Pr'esidingJudges, and ask for a clarification <br />of the returns. <br /> <br />Mr. Yarbr-ough introduced a Resolution and Order Declaring the <br />Resul ts of the Election, and moved its adoption. Councilman <br />De. La Rosa seconded the motion, which passed uhanimously. The <br />Resolution and Order is attached as a part of the Minutes. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith announced that a Mayor, and Mayor Pro Tem would be <br />elected by the Council at the regular meeting, May 10. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor said that Jerome Cates, 'Vice-president for Fiscal <br />Affairs at Southwest Texas State University, had requested that <br />the newly-elected C,6uncilman for Place 5 be given the Oath of <br />Office as soon as possible. It was explained that Dr. Emmie <br />Craddock , former official for that Place, who was forced to <br />resign following a ruling.on the Constitution last Fall, could <br />not be placed on the State payroll until her replacement was <br />sworn into office, and that she was being paid her sal~ry out of <br />local University funds. Mr. Smith said administration of the <br />Oath of Office had been, scheduled for May 10. He asked Mr. Ether- <br />edge how he felt about being sworn into office immediately. <br />Mr. Etheredge said he was willing' to take the Oath of Office at <br />any time. <br />The Mayor moved that Eddy A. Etheredge take the Oath of Office <br />as Councilman, Place 5, at the May 5 meeting. Mr. Yarbrough <br />seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br />Mayor Smith administered the Oath of Office to Mr. Etheredge. <br />The Mayor and other Members of the Council welcomed the new <br />Councilman for Place 5, and he was seated at the Council table. <br />
