Etheredge, Bruce Smith and <br />others <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Rev. C. Eugene Jennings, Rector of St. Mark's Church, <br />appeared before the Counci I in regard to a former request for a <br />special bui Iding permit to use a shingle roof on a proposed new <br />church building. The Rev; Mr" Jennings' prepared statement is <br />attached as a part of th~ Minute~. The matter was discussed by <br />the Counci I and Fr. Jennings, Alderman Whittenb,<;!rg stated: <br />"This should conclude the question favorably to St. Mark's <br />(request)". It was agreed by common consent that St. Mark's <br />Vestry would be issued a building permit with the use of a shingle <br />roof allowed. <br /> <br />Copies of a proposed Ordinance amending the Parking Meter Ordi- <br />nance, increasing the area for the use of parking meters in the <br />downtown section were distributed for consideration of the Counci I. <br />A discussion ens~ed, with a more restricted area being agreed <br />upon than that proposed in the Amendment, as follows: <br />"... that part of Hopkins Street which lies between the east side <br />of Lyndon B. Johnson Drive (formerly Austin Street) and Edward <br />Gary Street-. Alderman Whittenberg moved the adoption of the <br />Ord i nance, as corrected. The Ord i nance, read in full, is made a <br />part o~the Minutes. Alderman Froh seconded the motion, and on <br />roll ca", the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Tuttle, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted. <br /> <br />Bids on the new Library Bui Iding were considered by the Counci I. <br />A copy of the tabulation is attached as a part of the Minutes. <br />Alderman Damon moved the Counci I concur in letting the contract <br />to the apparent low bidder, S & G Construction Co., ~ubject to <br />the recommendation of the architects, Fehr & Granger. Alderman <br />Pool seconded the motion and the following vote was recorded <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Pool, Tuttle, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br />
