<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />ll2 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE 1988-15 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, ORDERING A SPECIAL AND A <br />JOINT GENERAL ELECTION BY SAID CITY AND THE <br />SAN MARCOS CONSOLIDATED INDEPENDENT SCHOOL <br />DISTRICT TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS ON MAY 7, 1988 FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />ELECTING A MAYOR, A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER, PLACE <br />FIVE, AND A CITY COUNCIL MEMBER, PLACE SIX, <br />SUBMITTING TO THE VOTERS PROPOSED AMENDMENTS <br />TO THE CHARTER OF SAID CITY, A PROPOSITION FOR <br />OR AGAINST SINGLE-MEMBER DISTRICTS FOR THE <br />ELECTION AND SERVICE OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, <br />A PROPOSITION REGARDING THE TYPE OF <br />SINGLE-MEMBER DISTRICT SYSTEM IF SAID CITY <br />ADOPTS A SINGLE-MEMBER DISTRICT PLAN, A <br />PROPOSITION REGARDING THE METHOD OF SELECTION <br />OF THE JUDGE OF THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF RECORD <br />OF SAID CITY, A PROPOSITION REGARDING THE <br />REMOVAL OF A PARKLAND RESTRICTION ON CERTAIN <br />CITY PROPERTY, A PROPOSITION CONCERNING A <br />STREET ASSESSMENT PROGRAM AND A PROPOSITION <br />CONCERNING AUTHORIZING THE CITY COUNCIL TO <br />APPROVE SUBDIVISION PLATS; SAID JOINT GENERAL <br />ELECTION TO BE HELD WITHIN AND WITHOUT THE <br />CORPORATE LIMITS OF SAID CITY FOR THE PURPOSE <br />OF ELECTING A SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF <br />TRUSTEES MEMBER, PLACE ONE, AND A SCHOOL <br />DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEMBER, PLACE TWO; <br />ESTABLISHING THE RATE OF COMPENSATION TO BE <br />PAID JUDGES, CLERKS, AND ASSISTANTS TO THE <br />TABULATION SUPERVISOR FOR SERVICES RENDERED <br />DURING SAID ELECTION; MAKING PROVISIONS FOR <br />THE CONDUCT OF THE ELECTION AND OTHER <br />PROVISIONS INCIDENT TO THE PURPOSES OF THIS <br />ORDINANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. That, in accordance with the Charter of the <br />City of San Marcos and the laws of the State of Texas, so far as <br />the same may be applicable, a special election by the City of San <br />Marcos, Texas and a joint general election by the City of San <br />Marcos, Texas and the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School <br />District shall be held, and the same are ordered and directed to <br />be held, at the various polling places and election precincts <br />within and without the corporate limits of the City of San Marcos, <br />Texas, as hereinafter designated, on the 7th day of May, 1988, <br />from the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at which joint election <br />there shall be elected by the qualified voters of the City of San <br />Marcos from the City at large, a Mayor for a term of two (2) <br />years, a City Council Member for Place Five and a City Council <br />Member for Place Six, for terms of three years each. By the <br />qualified voters of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School <br />District there shall be elected a School District Board of <br />Trustees Member for Place One, and a School District Board of <br />Trustees Member for Place Two, for terms of three years each. At <br />said special election to be held within the corporate limits of <br />said City, there shall be submitted to the resident qualified <br />voters of said City proposed amendments to the Charter of the City <br />of San Marcos, Texas, a proposition for or against single-member <br />districts for the election and service of City Council Members, a <br />proposition regarding the type of single-member district system if <br />said City adopts a single-member district plan, and a proposition <br />regarding the method of selection of the Judge of the Municipal <br />Court of record of said City, a proposition concerning removing <br />the parkland restriction on certain property so that the property <br />can be used for a library and other facilities and a proposition <br />concerning a street assessment program. <br />
