<br /> 11 <br /> ORDINANCE 1984-1 <br /> AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE <br /> OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SAN JVIARCOS, TEXAS, BY <br /> ADDING AN ARTICLE TO BE NUMBERED VII fro SAID <br /> CHAPTER 2 PROVIDING FOR frHE CREATION OF A <br /> COMMISSION FOR WOMEN; PROVIDING FOR THE <br /> COlVlPOSITION AND APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF SUCH <br /> BOARD AND THE FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD; <br /> AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DA'rE. <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos, <br /> Texas recognizes the necessity of having an advisory board to <br /> aid in meeting the needs and problems of women the San <br /> Marcos area; and, <br /> WHEREAS, there is a necessity for the involvement and <br /> participation of the citizens of this community in order to <br /> attain the goal outlined above; now, therefore, <br /> BE rr ORDAINED BY THE CI'rY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> SECTION 1. That Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of <br /> the City of San Marcos, Texas, be amended to add an Article <br /> to be numbered VII and entitled "Commission For Women" to <br /> read as follows: <br /> ARTICLE VII. <br /> COMMISSION FOR WOMEN <br /> SEC. 2-125. Composition; appointment of members. <br /> There hereby established the Commission For <br /> Women. Such board ~hall be composed of fteen <br /> (15) citizens of -the City of San Marcos, <br /> appointed by the City Council, who are willing to <br /> pursue a positive course of action for achieving <br /> equal rights and responsibilities for all women <br /> and through their activities have demonstrated <br /> -the commitment -to this goal. Said members <br /> shall be appointed to two-year staggered terms <br /> with the term of eight (8) of such board members <br /> expiring June 30 of odd-numbered years and seven <br /> (7) of such board members expiring June 30 of <br /> even-numbered years. The length of terms of the <br /> original board members shall be determined by the <br /> casting of lots and no member of the board shall <br /> have his or her term expire June 30, 1984. The <br /> members of the Commission shall at their first <br /> meeting, within thirty (30) days after their <br /> appointment, elect a chairperson and a <br /> vice-chairperson from their membership. After <br /> one year from the date of formation, all officers <br /> shall have as a requirement of office at least <br /> one year of serve on the Co~nission. The <br /> Commission may elect, from its membership, such <br /> other officers and committees as it may, from <br /> time to time, determine necessary for the proper <br /> formance of its duties. <br /> Sec. 2-126. Rules and regulations. <br /> The Commission For Women shall adopt such rules <br /> and regulations as it deems best to govern its <br /> actions, subject to the general laws of the <br /> State, this Code, Charter of the City of San <br /> Marcos, and any other ordinances of the <br />
