11 ORDINANCE 1984-1 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF SAN JVIARCOS, TEXAS, BY ADDING AN ARTICLE TO BE NUMBERED VII fro SAID CHAPTER 2 PROVIDING FOR frHE CREATION OF A COMMISSION FOR WOMEN; PROVIDING FOR THE COlVlPOSITION AND APPOINTMENT OF MEMBERS OF SUCH BOARD AND THE FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DA'rE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas recognizes the necessity of having an advisory board to aid in meeting the needs and problems of women the San Marcos area; and, WHEREAS, there is a necessity for the involvement and participation of the citizens of this community in order to attain the goal outlined above; now, therefore, BE rr ORDAINED BY THE CI'rY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of San Marcos, Texas, be amended to add an Article to be numbered VII and entitled "Commission For Women" to read as follows: ARTICLE VII. COMMISSION FOR WOMEN SEC. 2-125. Composition; appointment of members. There hereby established the Commission For Women. Such board ~hall be composed of fteen (15) citizens of -the City of San Marcos, appointed by the City Council, who are willing to pursue a positive course of action for achieving equal rights and responsibilities for all women and through their activities have demonstrated -the commitment -to this goal. Said members shall be appointed to two-year staggered terms with the term of eight (8) of such board members expiring June 30 of odd-numbered years and seven (7) of such board members expiring June 30 of even-numbered years. The length of terms of the original board members shall be determined by the casting of lots and no member of the board shall have his or her term expire June 30, 1984. The members of the Commission shall at their first meeting, within thirty (30) days after their appointment, elect a chairperson and a vice-chairperson from their membership. After one year from the date of formation, all officers shall have as a requirement of office at least one year of serve on the Co~nission. The Commission may elect, from its membership, such other officers and committees as it may, from time to time, determine necessary for the proper formance of its duties. Sec. 2-126. Rules and regulations. The Commission For Women shall adopt such rules and regulations as it deems best to govern its actions, subject to the general laws of the State, this Code, Charter of the City of San Marcos, and any other ordinances of the
