Dan <br />Scales requested the speed limit on Hopkins in front of the library <br />be changed from 40 to 20 so that children could get to the library, <br />or in the alternative, to shuttle children to the library. The <br />Council asked Mr. Scales if he had made this request to the School <br />District to shuttle the children, and he said they recommended he <br />talk to the City. Since Hopkins is a state highway, the City can <br />request the State to do a study regarding the speed limit and <br />possible signalization. The City has plans to build a sidewalk in <br />front of the library this year. Mr. Moore stated he was interested <br />in the children having a shuttle to take them to the library and <br />wants this discussed with the School District. <br /> <br />Mayor Morris introduced for consideration approval of five <br />appointments to the Main Street Advisory Board. Mr. Plummer moved <br />to reappoint Gilbert Vasquez (Hispanic Chamber), reappoint Rob <br />Robinson (Downtown), appoint Susan Thomas (at large) and appoint <br />Doug Polzon (Downtown), which passed unanimously. The County will <br />provide a new appointment in May. <br /> <br />Mayor Morris introduced for consideration three appointments to the <br />Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Mr. Moore moved to <br />reappoint Garland Warren, reappoint Tommy Hamilton and reappoint <br />Dean Lalich, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Morris introduced for consideration approval of the City <br />Manager's appointment of an Assistant City Manager. Mr. Gilley <br />recommended Laura Huffman for the position. Mr. Plummer moved for <br />approval of Ms. Huffman as Assistant city Manager and Mr. Hart <br />seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Mr. Gilley stated he <br />would continue to make strides in the employment of minority staff <br />members, and the Council directed Mr. Gilley to continue to have <br />more diversity of staff. <br /> <br />Mayor Morris introduced for consideration a public hearing and <br />adoption of a Resolution, the caption which was read as follows: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS, AMENDING THE FUTURE LAND USE MAP OF THE MASTER PLAN OF <br />THE CITY, FROM MEDIUM DENSITY RESIDENTIAL TO PUBLIC FOR A 0.45 <br />ACRE TRACT OF PROPERTY LOCATED AT 616 MARTIN LUTHER KING DRIVE <br />AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />* Mr. Mooney not present at this meeting. <br />
