12. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, JUNE 11, 2001 PRESENT: Mayor David Chiu Mayor Pro-Tern Deputy Mayor Pro-Tern Council Members Jane Hughson Joe B. Cox, Jr. Ed Mihalkanin Jacob Montoya Paul Mayhew Martha Castex Tatum City Manager Deputy City Manager City Clerk City Attorney Police Chief Director of Finance Director of Water/Wastewater Fire Chief Larry Gilley Laura Huffman Janis K. Womack Mark Taylor Steve Griffith Bill White Tom Taggart Dan O'Leary Also Present: Shelley Goodwin, Joe Castillo, Collette Jamison, Johnnie Armstead, Gwen Smith, John Holtermann, James Frye, Carl Deal, Melissa Millecam, Murlin Evans, Sherri Russell, Diana Finlay, Ed Theriot, Gil Peyton and others. Mayor Chiu called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Chiu introduced the Citizen comment period. Pat Tessaro of the San Marcos Food Bank stated they requested $10,000 funding from CDBG before the Human Services Advisory Board and were approved by that Board. The funding request is to build a community garden to provide produce for families with summer and fall crops. They have secured a location for the garden behind the Hays County Law Enforcement Center. Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of three appointments to the Cemetery Commission. Mr. Cox moved to appoint Josephine Wiegand and Mr. Mayhew moved to reappoint Dixie Moffitt, which passed unanimously (Ms. Hughson abstaining to the reappointment of Dixie Moffitt, her sister). The remaining appointment will be scheduled at the next meeting. Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of four appointments to the Ethics Review Commission. Ms. Hughson moved to reappoint Mary Cauble, Mr. Cox moved to appoint Susan Tilka, and Ms. Tatum moved to reappoint Candy Walker and reappoint Danny Hurtado, Jr., which passed unanimously.
