Cathcart, jr., <br />Jerri Martin, Charles Ma'rtin, Lanny Cravy, <br />Bill' Veidt, 'Bob Barton, Ross King <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and opened <br />a public hearing on an increase in gas rates requested by <br />Penzoil United Gas Company. 'Mr. R.J. Uhr, district manager <br />of Penzoil United, holders of the gas franchise with the City, <br />was the spokesman. Hesfatedthe request for an increase in <br />domestic rates was based on increase in cost of operation over <br />the past twenty years. <br /> <br />Reference was made to four points of disagreement brought out <br />in the report submitted by the Study Committee appointed by the <br />Mayor when the rate increase was proposed January 21, 1969. <br />Dr. Craddock, a member of the Committee, read the concluding <br />paragraph ofth~Report~ <br /> <br />"It is the conclusion of the study committee that United Gas. <br />Company is: deserving of a rate increase in order to earn a <br />sufficient rate'of return on its investment. The committee <br />recommends approval of the rates submitted with the aforement- <br />ioned conditions. The committee would also point out that the <br />officials of the Gas Company have been most cooperative, and <br />permitted full access to their records. Our particular thanks <br />are extended to Mr. Robert Uhr and Mr. Sam Cathcart" . <br /> <br />The chief objection brought out in the hearing was the committee's <br />contention that the industrial users should share the increase <br />in rate with small ~omm~rcial businesses and domestic consumers. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Amo~g the citizens speaking in favor of the increase as pro- <br />posed was 'Frank, Zimmerma n, former Mayor of San Ma'rcos . <br /> <br />After all who wished to speak had been heard, the hearing was <br />concluded.' Th~ Mayor said appropriate action 'would be taken <br />on the matter at the regular meeting, January 12, 1970. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced the Swimming Pool Repor't submitted by the <br />committee on December 17, 1969. It was stated Hays County Veterans, <br />Inc. wished formal action on the report before presenting it <br />to members for approval. Proper legal documents would then be <br />
