<br />REGULAR MEETING <br />IM.Y 27, 1955 <br /> <br />On this, the 27th day of May, 1955, A.D., at 2:00 o'clock P.M., the <br />Ci ty Co =cil of' the Cit y 0 f San M areo s, Texas, met in a regular meeting <br />at the City Hall with the following me~bers 'present and participating: <br /> <br />29 <br /> <br />Frank 3. Jr., Alderman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />others present were: <br />W. G. 5aroee A. Y. Mcwilliams <br /> <br />C. V. Carson Rodgers Storey <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the Mayor called the meeting to order and <br />the following transpired: <br /> <br />Bids for approximately 9,000 feet of curb and gutter for S.Austin <br />and Mill Streets were opened and were as follows: <br /> <br />May 27, 1955 <br />I agree to build curb and gutter as specified for the City of San Marcos <br />for the sum of $1,14 (One Dollar and Fourteen Cents per foot). <br /> <br />/s/ Howard Sparks <br /> <br />Gre en Valle'! C onerete Co. <br />for bond" <br /> <br />City of San Marcos <br />San Marcos, Texas <br /> <br />May 27, 1955 <br /> <br />I propose to construct approximately 9,000 feet of curb and gutter, <br />according to specifications, furnishing all labor and materials, excepting <br />maintainer work, for the sum of :fi1.29 per rineal foot. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Aoproximate total bid: $11,610.00 <br /> <br />Houston A. Gafford <br /> <br />May 27, 1955 <br /> <br />To City of San Marcos <br /> <br />I bid $1.45 per lineal 'foot for the construction of curbs and gutters <br />on South Austin and Mill streets, Sa..'l Marcos, 'rexas, in accordance with <br />City specifications. <br /> <br />Horace C. Howard <br /> <br />After reviewing the bids, Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the <br />City accept the iJid of Howard Sparks at $1.14 per foot, providing that he <br />furnishes the proper bond. Alderman De Viney seconded the motion. A vote <br />was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />Mr. 2arbee read aloud the letter which had been received from the <br />Missouri-Pacific Railroad Lines, stating that the railroad would not <br />spend any money on the underpass or grade crossing in the park. It was <br />the opinion of the Council that a letcer should be written to the railroad <br />company stating that the City would be willing to pay $7,500.00 on the <br />underpass instead of building a grade crossing, which would cost that <br />amount. n,e Ccuncil also suggested that the City request a representative <br />of the railroad company to meet with Mr. Barbee to discuss this matter. <br />iVcr. Barbee stated that he woul<l write the letter. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Seecroft sta.ted that he had been stUdying the Building <br />Code used by San Marcos and suggested that the Council adopt Section 9Q9, <br />Paragraph 4, in order that the inspectcrs will lrnow exactly what they are <br />to enforce, and in order that building within the Fire Limits will not <br />be so expensive. Alderman ~~ith stated that he was of the opinion that <br />the Council should take no action until the Fire Co~missioner of Texas is <br />contacted, to determine whether or not the insurance rate would be <br />increased if this section is adopted. It was the Council's decision that <br />the Fire Commissioner should be contacted im~ediately in order to determine <br />exactly what can be done. <br />
