<br />REGULAR MeETING MAY 10, 1956 <br /> <br />On this, the 10th day of May, 1956, the city council of the city <br />of San Marcos met in a regular meeting at the City Hall at 2:00 0'cloc1 <br />with the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />45 <br /> <br />Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />W. M. Davis, Alderman <br />Herman Korff, Alderman <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderm~~ <br /> <br />Absent: C. M. Allen. Alderman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Others present: Herbert Nix Ann Ziemke W. G. '3arbee <br />ceasar Damon A. Y. McWilliams Mrs, C. V. carsor. <br />Claudio Flores. <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the meeting was called to. order by <br />Mayor Dietterich. and the following transpired: <br /> <br />Herbert Nix, Park Board Chairman. made a report on the <br />work that has been comuleted in the park. He stated that the opening <br />date has been set for May 18, 1956, which will make it necessary <br />that several things be done by that date. Mr. Nix reported that the <br />river at the swimming pool area has a covering of mud on the bottom <br />and that it is the suggestion of the Park Board that gravel and rocks <br />be dumped into this swimming area in order to make it more suitable <br />for swimming. It was stated that this would take approximately <br />1,000 yards of gravel. After a discussion, the Council unanimously <br />approved the graveling of the bottom of the swimrr,ing area. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Nix had previously presented a list of Rules for the <br />City park, Recreation Building, swirr@ing Pool and Baseball Diamonds <br />which the park Board recormnended be approved and placed in effect <br />as soon as possible. The Council reviewed these rules, after which, <br />Alderman Hillburn made a motion that the Council approve and adopt <br />these rules and regulations and that they be put into effect <br />as soon as the park opens. Alderm~~ Davis seconded the motion. <br />A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br />A copy of the rules and re~ulations follows these minutes and is <br />a part hereof. <br /> <br />W. G. Barbee, Executive secretary, then presented a copy of the <br />Tentative ~udget for the city and utilities for 1956~57 which he <br />reviewed in detail with the Council. A copy of a list of the employees <br />and salaries and duties accom~nied the budget. A list of <br />an analysis of taxes for 1955 was also studied by the Council. It <br />was the decision of the Council to table this budget until a later <br />date, in order that it can be reviewed thoroughly before any action <br />is taken. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />W. G. Sarbee then advised the Council that Ann Ziemke, city <br />Secretary, will be leaving at some time in June, and that it was his <br />suggestion that Fredericka Hopkins be transfered from the office of <br />Tax Collector to that of City secretary. He stated that he would <br />then place Judy Brackett in charge of the Water Department and the <br />Tax Department and would probably hire two clerks to work in the <br />two departments. He stated that his reason for suggesting this plan <br />was due to the fact that Mrs. Hopkins has had some experience in <br />the City secretary duties. The Council then unanimously approved <br />the above plan. Alder-man ,Beecroft made a motion that the plan be <br />approved.
