M. the City Council of
the City of San Marcos, met in a regular meeting at the City Hall in San Marcos,
with the following members present and participating:

I

Calvin M. Allen, MaYor Pro Iem
S. R. Beecroft, Alderman
Herman Korff, Alderman
B. D. Hillburn, Alderman
W, M. Davis, Alderman

Others present were:

Tom G. Oliver Jr" W. G. Barbee, and Fredericka Hopkins

Mr. Harry E. May and Ralph Marker of the May Hiway Display Company came
before the Council in regard to a sign being erected in the city limits. The
sign to be erected would be one advertising the Wonder Cave, and would bean
Highway 81, Business Route, on the Martinez property across from Charles A.
Zunker's property. After a short discussion it was decided that if the May
Htway Display Company took out a permit, the Council could see no reason
why they should not erect such a sign.

Mr. Tom G. Oliver, Jr., then reported to the Council concerning negotiations
on the three remaining pieces of property needed and not yet obtained for the
Highway 81 right-of-way. He reported a letter having been received from Mr.
Mays, of which each member of the Council had previously received a copy,
stating that he would accept $3,000.00 and the City move his house for him,
There was some discussion centering on why the City WOUldn't want to move
the house. Mr. Davis ,then brought to the attention of the Council that Mr.
Carter of the Luling Federal Savings and Loan Association had made 'a proposition
to him several months ago that he, Carter, would recommend to give Mr. Mays
$3,000.00 and he, Mays, move the house. It was unanimously agreed that Mr. Davis
contact Mr. Carter and accept this latter proposition on behalf of the Cpuncil,
and to tel~ him a deed would be sent to him to sign if all was now agreeable,

I

The property belonging to Mr. Raymond Russell was then discussed. Mr.
Hillburn made a motion to proceed with a condemnation suit on Russell's property.
Mr. Korff seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimOUSly
in favor of the motion. A copy of the motion follows these minutes and becomes
a part hereof.

Next, was a report on John Clark Industries highway property. It was
stated that a letter had been sent General John Clark and all Councilmen felt
sure that he would answer agreeably to the letter, It was decided to have
Mr. Barbee negotiate with General Clark.

Next on the agenda was a report that Rev. Chunn of the First Baptist Church
had requested about five hundred (500) City maps to be given away to the 500 to
600 visitors coming to a Baptist meeting to be held here in San Marcos, on
March 21st. After some discussion three of the Aldermen decided to purchase the
maps for R~v. Chunn with their advertisements on same.

Next was a report that the Telephone Company would like to obtain a list
of the water customers; such list not to be used for advertising purposes. The
Council all were in agreement to this.

I

The question of the advisability of submitting to the San Marcos voters at
the coming April 2nd election, the proposition of using $100,000.00 of funds
from the Highway Bond Issue for the new Sewer and Lift Station project, was
discussed, It was finally mutually agreed that an election would be held later,
on this matter, after it was learned whether the City is to receive a Federal
Grant to apply on the Sewer project.

It was next remarked that a report on the results of the dial telephone system
after being in operation for a year, had been received by each Councilman.
