<br />51 <br />t?7 <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING ~AY 21, 1957 <br /> <br />On this, the 21st day of May, 1957, at 2:00 P. M. the City aounci1 of the City <br />of 3an Marcos, Texas met in a regular meeting at the City Hall in San Marcos, with <br />the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />C. M. Allen, Mayor <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />Hennan Korff, Alderman <br />W. M. Davis, Alderman <br />H. W. Steakley, Alderman <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the Mayor called the meeting to order, and the following <br />transpired: <br /> <br />First business to come before the Council for consideration was the extra work <br />that must be done by the street department because of the heavy rains. It was <br />disclosed that four extra men are needed in order to carry out this work, two to <br />be used in the park, and two on the street work. It was mutually agreed that four <br />men could be employed, as outlined. It was also mutually agreed that Mr. Julian <br />Rackley be placed in full charge of all park maintenance work. <br /> <br />It was further brought to the attention of the Council that a mowing machine <br />was needed to do the park grass cutting. It Was stated that the San Marcos <br />Equipment Company had such a machine that they would sell to the City for $460.00 <br />This machine is a Servis Mower, Model "SC-SO". <br /> <br />Mr. Steakley made a motion that the City purchase this "SC-BO" mower for <br />$460.00. Mr. Beecroft seconded the motion. A vote Was taken with the fOllowing <br />results: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Beecroft <br />Steakley <br />Hi llburn <br />Korff <br />Davis <br /> <br />yes <br />yes <br />yes <br />yes <br />no <br /> <br />The motion carried. <br /> <br />A discussion of bids on the Police Cars followed. It was mutually agBeed <br />that Mr. Hillburn and Mr. Beecroft were to take the two police cars to a reliable <br />mechanic and have him make an estimate as to what it would cost to put them in <br />good running order. The Plymouth was to be taken to Rufus Doyle at Arnold-Mauldin <br />Motors and the Ford to the mechanic at Jack Hughes Motors. <br /> <br />The bids for recapping three maintainer tires were then opened. The lowest <br />bidder was awarded the work, namely Scott Tire and Appliance Company for $62.20 per <br />tire. <br /> <br />Next business to be brought to the attention of the Council Was the reading of <br />two letters from two interested citizens of the City stating that the "pick-up <br />station" for Service Men, across from the First National Bank was of no further use <br />for the purpose for which it was intended, and that it should be moved and six <br />parking meters installed in place of it. Mr. Hillburn then made a motion to <br />move the said "pick-up station" and install six parking meters in that location. <br />Mr. Steakley seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in <br />favor of the motion. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />It was brought to the notice of the Council that a number of garbage and <br />sewer refunds are given each month to persons not entitled to the refunds, namely <br />by not reporting when an apartment is rented, for if rented they are not due any <br />refund. It was mutually agreed that Mr. Roy Lane study this problem and suggest the <br />best way to handle same. <br /> <br />After a discussion of the fact that pOlice dispatchers have been patd for time <br />during which they do not work. Mr. Korff made a motion effective i~~ediately that <br />police dispatchers working on an hourly basis be paid only for the hours which they <br />work. Mr. Beecroft seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously <br />in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />A discussion arose of the situation growing from the fact that Wm. J. Graham <br />
