<br />~'- <br />~ <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING JUNE 11, 1957 <br /> <br />On cn~s, the 11th day of June, 1957, at 2:00 P. M. the City Council of the City <br />of San Marcos, Texas met in a regular meeting at the City Hall in San Marcos, with <br />the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />C. M. Allen, Mayor <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />Herman Korff, Alderman <br />W. M. Davis, Alderman <br />H. W. Steakley, Alderman <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the Mayor called the meeting to order, and the following <br />transpired: <br /> <br />Mr. John Stokes appeared before the Council with regard to charging him $110.00 <br />for City building permit fees on construction work his Company is in the process of <br />doing at the College. Since this is state-owned property, Mr. Stokes does not think <br />he is liable for these fees. As there has always been a charge on all construction <br />work done by contractors at the college, Mr. Stokes was told he would have to pay. <br />He did so under protest. <br /> <br />MI'S Emma Bragg then appealed to the Council in regard to a lot next door to <br />her home, and owned by Mr. Elrr,er Satterwhite. She described the necessity for <br />cleaning it of trash, trees, and weeds. She stated that this was not only a fire <br />hazard but a health hazard as well. The Council assured Mrs. Bragg that they would <br />do all they could in getting this lot cleaned, by having both Mr. Burwell the <br />Sanitarian, and Mr. Major the Fire Marshal, See Mr. Satterwhite about this problem. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Representative of the First Baptist Church then came before the Council asking <br />if the City would level off the lot known as "flat iron" to be used as a parking lot <br />for both the Presbyterian and Baptist Church. The Council did not think it could <br />do so, but made a propostion thae the City would give the Baptist Church permission <br />to level off the lot for their own use. After a short discussion the Council then <br />asked the group, if the City leveled the lot, would the Church in return give the <br />City full rights on the lot next to the Library. They were to find out and let the <br />Council know. <br /> <br />Mr. F!'ank Taylor then appeared, in regard to the lighting of the "Little League <br />Field # 3. Ie was stated earlier in the season that the City would pay $200.00 fOr <br />lighc;s for ohe season. It has since been decided that it will be more than $200.00. <br />The Council info!'med'~lr. Taylor chac they would pay the light bill with the understanding <br />that he take charge of the lighting and be as careful with them as possible. <br /> <br />Mr. Taylor also brought up the question, that the fields will be in need of <br />care such as watering them dowri'after games. He stated that he knew of a boy who <br />would do the job! for $18.00 a- week for a period of (; weeks. It was mutually agreed <br />that Mr. Taylor hire this boy at the rate of $18.00 per week. <br /> <br />Next on the agenda was the problem of someone turning the lights off at the <br />Memori'al Park each night. Mr. Allbright, Chief of Police was then given authority <br />to See that these lights were turned off each night. He was also asked to mak@ <br />recommendations as to the parking on North Guadalupe street by the Catholic Church. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />It was brought to the attention of the Council that cwo lawn mowers are needed <br />by the two new fire stations. Mr. Korff was asked to get a set of specifications <br />for two rotary mowers and chen get bids for same. <br /> <br />A letter was then read to the Council from Mr. Joe Echols asking that he be <br />given permission for the souvenir concession franchise rights at the Memorial Park. <br />It was decided that this letter be turned over to the Park Board for their decision. <br /> <br />Mr. Hillburn then described certain river conditions, such as fishing and swimming <br />at low water bridges, and asked permission to complete an ordinance with Mr. Ernest <br />Morgan, City Attorney, covering the prohibiting of fishing or swimming in river or <br />lakes in the City Limits where life guards are not on duty. He was granted the permission. <br /> <br />The Council mutually agreed that the Park Board be given full authority to deal <br />with any and all decisions as to the conducting of the Park in general by rules and <br />regulations. <br /> <br />The "blind corners" shrub and tree ordinance was brought up for stUdy.
