SPECIAL ivlEETING HELD ON j"ANUABY 6. 1960

Gn the 6th day of January 1960, th~ Governing Body of the City of
San Marcos, Texas met in Special Session, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding.

I

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor with the following
pre.sen1;:

Mayor C. M. Allen
Alderman: ~. R. Beecroft
W. M. Davis
B. D. Hillburn
Herman Korff
James Tuttle
City Manager B. R. Fuller
Walter Buckner, San Marcos RECORD
Gene Posey, County Comrnissioner Prec. 1

The Mayor explained the purpose of the meeting was to discuss a
proposal which had.been suggested by County Commissioner Gene Posey.

I

lV,r. Posey explained that he was calling a public meeting to discuss
the advisability of organizing a rural volunteer fire association. The
members of the association wDuld pay annual dues of an estimated amount
of $l.OO, or more, which would be used to supplement the funds available
from the County to defray the expenses connected with having the City's
fire equipment respond to rural alarms. COffiTIissioner Posey explained
that he was only interested in having the equipment answer alarms where
a house or readily accessible oqtbuilding waS involved. The City would
not be expected to fight pasture fires nor to leave the road.

The various aspects of the proposal were thoroughly discussed, as
well as the previous offers for fire-fighting services which had been
made to the County Co~nissioners' Court. The City Manager explained
that, if a contract was entered into for fire service, it would have
to be with the County offioial ;r ~ome recognized governmental agency
eligible to enter into such a contract.

Alderman Davis noted that previous offers for service had been
on a yearly basis and that he felt Mr. Posey needed a price per run.
He suggested that SlOO.aO per run, plus milage over a certain distance,
seemed in keeping with charges made by other municipalities. Commis-
sioner Posey agreed that this sounded "pretty reasonable".

I

Alderman Tuttle made a motion that the service of one piece of
equipment, with an operator, be placed at the disposal of Hays County
to answer all fire alarms at a price of $100.00 per run or on an annual
basis of $1,800.00. It is undeTstood that the County is to define the
area within in Precinct No. I to be covered by the San Marcos Unit and
further, that the fire equipment will not be expected to make any run
that did not have a serviceable road nor to leave the road to fight
pasture fires. Further that a standby run would be considered a regular
run for which compensation would be expected. The motion was seconded
by Alderman Hillburn. After considerable discussion, the rOll call on the
motion resulted in the following vote.

Ayes: s. R. Beecroft
W. M. Davis
B. D.
