REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 11. 1960 On the 11th day of October, 1960, at 2100 o'clock P.M., the Governing Body of the City of San Marcos met in regular session at the City Hall, Mayor C. M. Davis Also Present, Mrs. Roland Manske, AAUW The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. The minutes of the meetings of ~eptember 13th, 21st, 28th, and October 6th were approved. The first item of discussion was parking in the cross alleys at the rear and beside of the City Hall. The unanimous decision of the Council was that parking be prohibited for all unattended cars, unloading priviledges to be respected. The City Manager presented a tabulation of the bids received and opened on October 10th for radio equipment for the new police car. After a review of the bids and some discussion the Council approved the purchase of the "Tube Type" Motorola from Motorola Communications & Electronics Company at a purchase price of $364 net (tradein $7~ installation $35~ 1 The City Manager referred to the Council a request fro~ the residents on Park Place Drive that street lights be installed. City Manager Fuller recommended that the entire section of R M 12 from the city limits to Moore ~treet be illuminated. The Council after a short discussion authorized the City Manager to proceed with arrangements for the installation as recommended. ./ In order to assure the availability of an adequate area at the end of Hopkins Street for the new bridge, the City Manager recommended that the City begin acquisition of all property in Block 29. The remainder of the property to be used for park improvements and recreational development. Alderman Tuttle moved that all residents and property. owners be notified their property will be needed for development by the City toward public use and benefit. Alderman Hillburn seconded, motion carried. II I The City Manager presented statistics on municipal ownership of the electrical distribution system by Texas cities. I~,was noted that there were 48 cities who owned their distribution system and that 45 were 50,000 population or under. After a lengthy discussion, it was the unanimous decision of the Council that a citizen's committee should be appointed to study the success these other cities had in municipal owner- ship and operation. The City Manager was requested to prepare and distribute to the cities a questionaire so that the committee would have the proper information for their evaluation. The following committee was named; Walter Buckner Roscoe Chambliss Archie Grusendorf Henry Kyle Bob Pollard Jimmie Smith Frank Taylor Leroy Thielemann Iilob<;>~+ 'Iht=oton Bob Van Gundy The committee was to elect the chairman from the group and to arrange their own rules.
