Moore <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. The minutes of the <br />meeting of June 13, 1961 were approved. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Younger requested a report on progress to street <br />improvements at the San Marcos Baptist Academy. The City Manager reported <br />that an engineering study on improvements to Academy Street was almost <br />complete. The opening of Grace Street had been delayed due to excessive <br />grade. As soon as possible, the opening of Liveoak Street extension would <br />be completed. The delay was due to possible relocation of right-of-way <br />through the Yarrington property. Alderman Hillburn asked if gravel pur- <br />chases from the Kitty Yarrington pit would expedite the signing of the <br />deed. The City Manager reported that this had not been a consideration <br />in the transaction. ' <br /> <br />Other items presented for information werel <br /> <br />A report that the Fish & Wild Life Service had reported to <br />Congressman Thornberry that they did not have sufficient legal description <br />of the property on the San Marcos River in which the City has indicated <br />an interest. This will be available in August. <br /> <br />Congressman Thornberry also reported that the Chairman of the <br />House Committee dn Publio Works had requested a preliminary report from <br />the Corps of Engineers regarding the flood conditions on the creeks and <br />rivers in the vicinity df San Marcos. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager reported that the city is eligable to receive an <br />obsolete jet airplane from the Naval Air Facility at Phoenix, Arizonia. <br />The Council decided this would add interest to the park area and asked <br />that an inquiry be made to determine total charges to the city on freight, <br />etc. A report to be prepared for the next regular council meeting. <br /> <br />A Sketch of traffic improvement proposal for the Olmos Drive- <br />Jeff Davis Drive intersection was approved unanimously by the Council. <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller reported that the city has completed 48 blocks <br />of 38,210 square yards of paving at a cost of $12,764.10 or 33.4~ per <br />square yard. This would be a strip 3.2 miles long, 20 feet wide. In <br />addition, the city laid 12,985 square yards of pavement on the runways at <br />the airport at a cost of $1,234.10 for labor and equipment. All of this <br />work was done through current operating funds. <br />
