<br />~7~.. <br /> <br />REGULAR h'EETING HEW ON NOVEMBER 14, 1961 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />On the 14th day of November, 1961, at 2:00 o'clock in the <br />af~ernoon, the Governing Body of the. city of San Marcos met in regular <br />session in the City Hall, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor <br />Alderman <br /> <br />C. M. Allen <br />B. D. Hillburn <br />Herman Korff <br />Reuben Ruiz <br />Kenneth Sutton <br />J. E. Younger <br />Manager B. R. Fuller <br />Secretary George C. Reed <br /> <br />city <br />City <br /> <br />Guests Ken Weatherford, Col. <br />Hill, R. B. Henderson, W. B. Cannon, <br />Wiley Froh, Thomas Kelley, Roger Goertz, <br />Jas. M. Edmondson, Jr., Bob Sadler, Mike <br />Bourgeois, Bobby Nicola, Albert Ludwig, <br />Weldon Barton, _James Angell, Russel sco~ <br />Nancy Rogers, Peggy Wells, Jimmy Kerch- <br />ville, Mr. Kone <br /> <br />The minutes of the meeting of October 10, 1961, were <br />approved as corrected and the minutes of the meeting accepted. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor asked if any interested groups had any matter to <br />be presented to the Council. Pr. Henderson stated that he had brought <br />his Government class from the College to observe the Council in action. <br />The Mayor expressed the interest of the Council, in having groups at- <br />tend the meetings of the Council and observing them in operation. <br /> <br />The Mayor brought up as the first matter of business that <br />the Council had 'previously approved the.installation of three over- <br />head storage tanks for the filling station which was being constructed <br />by Mr. Carson at the intersection of South Austin and Interstate 35. <br />Mr. Carson ljadrequested that this number be increased to four (4) <br />overhead tanks. On motion of Aldeman Sutton, seconded by Alderman <br />Hillburn the request was approved, provided the tanks met the same <br />safety specifications which had been previously approved. Themo.tion <br />carried unaminously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager expressed his appreciation to the Council <br />for having been allowed to take the trip to Ft. Bliss and Colorado <br />Springs to observe some of the miss~le defense installations and mis- <br />sile expermental work. The Council went into a rather detailed dis- <br />cussion of the local civ~l defense program as it related to the trans- <br />fer from the Office of Civil Defense & 'Mobilization to the present <br />administrative command of the Department of Defense. The City Manager <br />exhibited a chart showing the various positions which would be re- <br />quired. It waS discussed that perhaps the County, in so far as the <br />environs of San Marcos was concerned, might he interested in joining <br />with the City in a ,common defense plan. On motion, Alderman Hillburn, <br />seconded by Alderman Korff .the City Manager was named as Acting Civ.il <br />Defense Director and requested to contact the County Judge to see if <br />they were interested in joining with the City. The motion carried. <br /> <br />A letter from the Controller of Brown Schools requesting <br />the street from the Old Post Road to its end of the street at the <br />entrance to the Brown School property be named was dtscussed. On <br />motion Alderman Younger, seconded by Alderman Ruiz and carried unami- <br />oUSly, the street was named the "Bert P. Jlrown Blvd.". <br />
