~ I REGULARAiEETING AND OPEN HEARING AUGUST 14, 1962 Pre sent: Mayor Aldermen C.M. Allen Dr. William L. Moore Ruben Ruiz H. Garland Stokes Lee Swift J.E. Younger I City Manager B.R. Fuller Dorothy O. Worrell Guests: The Rev. Hugh Busby, Mrs. Jerri Veidt and Tom Buckner; delegation from Austin; citizen group, San Marcos. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Allen. The Reverend Mr. Busby gave the Invocation. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and .approvem. Alderman Ruiz introduced an Ordinance and moved its adoption.. The Ordinance was read in full. The motion for adoption was Seconded by Alderman Stokes. Caption of the Ordinance, a copy of which is attached to these minutes, is as follows: I AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CERTAIN PORTIONS OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING CERTAIN CITY OFFICIALS; FIXING THEIR DurIES, COMPENSATION AND TERM OF OFFICE", ADOPTED ON THE 4THfDAY OF APRIL, A.D., 1962. Upon roll call, the following vote was recorded: AYES: NAYS: MOORE, RUIZ, STOKES, SWIFT AND YOUNGER NONE I' Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the Amendment duly adopted. The Mayor then asked Dorothy O. Worrell to assume her duties as City Secretary. A delegation representing the American Automobile Association appeared before the Council to award the City of San Marcos the 1961 Pedestrian Safety Citation. Mr. I.W. Davis of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company introduced Mr. Allen Sears, AAA Regional Director General of the Texas Association of Traffic Safety, who presented the award as a four-year achievement on the basis of no pedestrian deaths during that period. The Mayor accepted the plaque with an expression of appreciation for the honor bestowed upon the City of San Marcos. I August 14th having been set by the Council for an Open Hearing on the proposed General Neighborhood Renewal Plan, Mayor Allen welcomed those who were present and asked the City Manager to outline the program. At the conclusion of the presentation, there were questions and answers and a general discussion between Councilmen and the 29 visitors. All expressed enthusi~Jrt for the General Neighborhood Renewal Plan and upon motion of a.R. Gulledge, it was unanimously endorsed by the group present. Alderman Stokes introduced an Ordinance calling for a Special Urban Renewal Election on September 18, 1962 and moved its adoption. The Ordinance was read in full. The motion for adoption was seconded by Alderman Younger. Caption of the Ordinance, a copy of which is attached to these minutes, is as follows: ~
