Hill, Mrs. Jerri Veidt, Wray Weddell, jr., <br />Tom Buckner <br /> <br />The Governing Body of the City of San Marcos met in Special Called Session <br />at 7 o'clock p.m., Mayor Pro-Tern J.2.Younger, jr., presiding. <br /> <br />The Presiding Officer made the following statement regarding the death of <br />Mayor C.M, Allen, which had occurred on November 17, 1962: <br />I . <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />"Gentlemen, I feel that we are certainly going to miss the leadership and <br />counsel of Mr. Allen, and I hope that I will be able to carry on the good <br />work that has bl!en instituted under his leadershIp, until such time as a <br />new lead~r is chOSen. I.hope that each of you will bear with me, and that <br />at all times We shall use as our yardstick, 'Is it good for San Marcos?' <br />"It is my understanding from our attorney that we may call a Special Election <br />to fill this vacancy, or we may carryon until the April Election. It is your <br />choice to decide what we shall do." <br /> <br />Alderman Rui~ moved that, due to the shortness of time, and to the best interests <br />of the citizens of San Marcos, the vacancy created by Mayor Allen's death be <br />filled by an election to be held on the first Tuesday in April, namely, the <br />second day of April, 1963. Alderman Stokes seconded the motion, and upon roll <br />call the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Moore, Rub, Stokes and Swift <br />NAY I None <br /> <br />Whereupon, Mayor Pr.o-Tem Younger declared the motion duly passed. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro-Tern Younger. expressed his appreciation C}f the confidence shown him, <br />He welcomed the members of the Press who were present, and said. <br /> <br />"I would remind the members of the Press, without throttling their right to <br />report the news, that the welfare and operation of the City are pa"ramount. <br />It is important that we move forward, and I hope the Press will give us <br />complete cooperation toward this end," <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes offered a Resolution expressing the great loss suffered by the <br />community in the death of Mayor Allen, and proposing that a planned new parkway <br />b@ nam@d in his honor. He moved the adoption of the Resolution, including the <br />request that a copy ll@ sent to Mrs. C.M.Allen, and a copy. be made available to <br />the PreSS, <br /> <br />The Resolution was read aloud. The motion for approval was seconded by <br />Alderman Ruiz, and was carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Whereupon, the Presiding Officer declared the motion duly passed, and the <br />Resolution PASSED AND APPROVED. . <br /> <br />A copy of the Resolution is attached hereto and made a part of the Minutes. <br /> <br />tJr:~;~ <br />
